Dec 25: ATB
Dec 26: ATB
Dec 27: ATB
Dec 28: ATB
Dec 29: ATB

Not so exciting. Lots of driving, my mouse made it through the week and I sacrificed it on Friday. Started home call on Friday. Didn't accomplish anything I need to yet. But did make my study schedule for the boards. Here's to 2013!

Christmas Eve

Dec 23: hallways at Downstate
Dec 24: 1 loop of Prospect Park

Enjoyed my last two lazy days. Today I finally got up, cleaned the apartment, did my long run (and 25/25 - want to get back into that habit) and now it's time for a healthy lunch and packing for home. Got some driving ahead of me, but that's okay. It's Christmas, after all.

Jingle Bells and Rain Drops

Dec 7: 1 mile ATB
Dec 8: Prospect Park Jingle Bell Jog 4M (34:55) and then running back a mile to get Jesse Lee and run him into the finish. (total ~ 6 miles)
Dec 9: Prospect Park 1 mile

So the Jingle Bell Jog had runners have jingle bells on their shoes. Nearly 5,000 runners ringing cheer through the park on a slight misty drizzle that's continued to today. At least the temp is in the 40s.

Yet Another Lost Post

Wrote a whole thing yesterday about almost falling in a pile of dog/horse shit, and poof! Gone again.

Nov 25: 1 mile Prospect Park
Nov 26: ATB in AM

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Brrr!

I know I composed a post since Nov 18, but it seems to have slipped into cyberspace.

Nov 19:  ATB before karate
Nov 20:  ATB before karate
Nov 21:  ATB early so I could watch the Macy's balloons after work
Nov 22:  ATB early so I could get home for Thanksgiving
Nov 23:  ATB
Nov 24:  ATB

And now it's cold!  My lungs still hurt from the run tonight.  Probably should have gone out earlier.

I need a vacation.  Tomorrow's the last day of 'doing nothing' where I should be getting lots accomplished but I've really enjoyed doing nothing.  Though I have tried to clean my apartment.

Birthday Weekend

Nov 17: Prospect Park 1 mile
Nov 18: ATB

Weekend in PA with Leigh, Scotty, Lucas, Drew and crew to celebrate my godson's 3rd birthday. My mice have survived yet another week.

Birthday!

Finally starting to feel a little less sick. Went to karate last night. Always puts a smile on my face. Sensei Ross and Ralph both missed me, which was sweet, and I got promoted to purple belt. Which was a good birthday present and sorta fitting.

Nov 12: ATB
Nov 13: ATB
Nov 14: ATB
Nov 15: ATB by karate
Nov 16: 1 mile in Prospect Park

Decisions today. Big day. Birthday!

Hacking Up a Lung

Nov 11: ATB before rounds

Hacking, coughing, sputtering. With lungs like this, I hate running. I'll love it again when I can breathe.

Hate Being Sick

Uuuuuugh. Sinuses. Lungs. Mucus. No voice.

Nov 9: ATB after work
Nov 10: ATB before rounds

I've been fighting this a week and it's starting to win. It needs to be gone.

AAGL: Vegas

So great to see people! The expected: Liz, Cara, Kirthi, Nancy and the unexpected: Gorelick and Droesch. So great to see Droesch! It was an awesome few days.

Nov 6: 2 miles around the strip
Nov 7: 1 mile on the strip
Nov 8: ATB

4 posters for SGO. A breakout, round table and poster for APGO. Video at AAGL. Not too shabby!

Early Morning

Ran this morning before the flight to AAGL. Excited about seeing people in Vegas!

Hard to See

All the trees down in the Park. Pales in comparison to the devastation people are suffering, I know. But these trees are so old and there are so many that have fallen - even if replaced, it'll take another hundred years to grow again.

Nov 4: 1 mile Prospect Park

So proud of everyone who ran in Central Park today, who ran to Staten Island to help, or just ran. We're runners. We'd run anyhow.

Run for Prospect Park

The Frankenstorm wasn't overhyped. There's still places without power, downtown Manhattan flossed, and the Jersey Shore is destroyed.

Oct 29: 1 mile in BSB. Hallway down and back, up the stairs, repeat from 3rd to 7th floor.
Oct 30: Up the hill
Oct 31: ATB
Nov 1: ATB
Nov 2: ATB
Nov 3: Prospect Park 3.3764 mile

The NYC Marathon has been canceled. So in the last 48 hours, more than 1000 people signed up to run in Prospect Park. The first race in a City Park since Hurricane Sandy. We raised more than $25K to help rebuild the Park. It's amazing and sad to see all the huge old trees down. But we will rebuild.

Oh, and my splits:
8:22, 8:32, 8:36, 3:06 = 28:37

Sunday, October 28, 2012

Wind

No rain yet, but the wind's a steady breeze. Figured I'd run before the rain because I'll be running in the rain for the next few days.

Oct 28: 1 mile Prospect Park
25/25 pushups and situps

Ok, Frankenstorm, do your damage! I'll be running in you tomorrow...

Saturday, October 27, 2012

Colors of Fall

Oct 24: 1 mile ATB in am so I could study in pm
Oct 25: 1 mile before karate
Oct 26: 1 mile ATB
Oct 27: 3.3 miles in Prospect Park (one loop) plus 25/25 pushups and situps

The Park's beautiful today. Leaves are reds and oranges mostly, but vibrant color. Course this will all go away with "Frankenstorm" starting tomorrow.

On call this weekend. Pretty straightforward so far. Gotta finish cancer bio presentation and study for exam on Tues. And make that decision I keep putting off.

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Decisions, Decisions

Oct 18: 1 mile ATB early
Oct 19: 1 mile around Port Jeff
Oct 20: 1 mile ATB pre-District 2
Oct 21: 1 mile ATB post-District 2
Oct 22: 1 mile ATB nighttime
Oct 23: 1 mile ATB nighttime

Had my Stony Brook interview Friday. Now decisions to be made, cancer bio tests to study for, and a weekend of call to take. Oh, and I start my mice tomorrow! Sorta stressed.

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Late Morning

Oct 16: 1 mile before karate
Oct 17: 1.75 or so - lower loop of Prospect Park

I'm struggling getting up in the mornings. Knowing that no one gets into the lab until 11, and getting sick of sitting in the lab waiting around, well, it's just not motivating to get out of bed and go to work. So now I'm done with my run at 7:30, which is usually the latest I would ever get to work.

Oh, and I restarted pushups and situps. At least 25/25 since Sun. Mainly because we did pushups and situps for a minute the last two nights at karate and I happened to do them on Sun too. So I did them today as well.

Monday, October 15, 2012

Self Defense

That's this week's theme at karate. They're still something I struggle with, so I'm happy to practice.

Oct 15: 1 mile ATB

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Rock & Roll

Yesterday was the 10K I've been training for. The week leading up to it included:
Oct 8: 1 mile before karate
Oct 9: 1 mile before karate with Marco
Oct 10: 1 mile ATB
Oct 11: 1 mile ATB
Oct 12: 1 mile ATB in the AM

Then it was dinner and sleepover with Diana since the race started at 7:30.

Oct 13: 10K in 58:22
Mile 1: 8:51 (uphill, too fast)
Mile 2: 9:33
Mile 3: 9:08
Mile 4: 9:46
Mile 5: 9:56 (up the hill again, hurting)
Mile 6: 9:30 (not bad since I was dying)
Mile 6.2: 1:35
Place: 179/627 in age group

Oct 14: 1 mile in Prospect Park

I think I'm going to like these 8K coming up. It may be a good distance for me. I'd like to get back to 13.1 though.

Sunday, October 7, 2012

Brooklyn & Connecticut

Oct 5: Prospect Park 1 mile
Oct 6: 1 mile Brooklyn Bridge Park after massage
Oct 7: 1 mile in CT up and down the road

Had a great time with the girls. Dinner, brunch, walking, massages, dinner, CT, breakfast at Jen's, afternoon at the parents, turkey dinner, and then heading to the lab in the morning.

Should be out at SB tonight. Oh well.

Yankees, Karate, Class

That's been my week. Monday night, Yankees game. Tuesday was karate, Wednesday was helping Chrissy with her cancer bio, and today was karate again. Which kicked my ass today and I was literally dripping with sweat.

Oct 1: ATB in the morning
Oct 2: Running before karate
Oct 3: ATB at night
Oct 4: Running before karate

Gotta get one long run in before the 10K next week. And Jen and Heather come tomorrow! Girls weekend!

Sunday, September 30, 2012

6 Mile

Finally upping the mileage. Ran the Rock n Roll course today (for the most part, with a 0.1 mile walk at mile 3.7 and some modifications since I started at my house. Ultimately, 6 miles in 55:30.

Sept 30: 6 miles around Prospect Park

All in all, felt good. :)

Saturday, September 29, 2012

Back on the Wagon

Been a while since I did the pushup/situp combo with my run.

Sept 29: 3.44 miles (loop of Prospect Park) in 31:52 and 30 situps/25 pushups and hanging on the pullup bar.

Tomorrow I run the whole course. Figured doing that today after 3/4 bottle of wine wouldn't be a good idea, but I feel pretty good so far!

Friday, September 28, 2012

Most Nights...

...I don't know anymore.

Sept 24: 1 mile ATB in the morning before leaving for NC
Sept 25: 1 mile on the treadmill (8:00)
Sept 26: 1 mile ATB in NC
Sept 27: 1 mile ATB after journal club
Sept 28: 1 mile in Prospect Park (7:30)

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Last Few Weeks

Sept 10: 1 mile in AM before heading to SB to speak at Candlelight Ceremony
Sept 11: 1 mile before karate
Sept 12: 1 long mile after 24 hours of food poisoning
Sept 13: 1 mile
Sept 14: 1 mile with Spencer in Ohio
Sept 15: 1 mile in Ohio
Sept 16: 1 mile in Ohio
Sept 17: 1 mile ATB
Sept 18: 1 mile before karate
Sept 19: 1 mile ATB after dinner with Sarah
Sept 20: 1 mile before karate
Sept 21: 1 mile ATB
Sept 22: 1 mile ATB
Sept 23: 5.5 miles Prospect Park - ram most of the Rock n Roll course. Did it in about 50-55 minutes

Got all my SGO abstracts in: 6 in total. Officially started my thesis, growing my cells. Got some papers to write, decisions to make.

Sunday, September 9, 2012

Putting in the Time

Sept 6: 1 mile after an amazing dinner
Sept 7: 1.1 miles in Prospect Park - I intended to do my 4.5 but wasn't feeling it
Sept 8: 1 mile ATB in the rain
Sept 9: 4.5 mile run around the Park

Sometimes I wish I hadn't signed up for all these 8 & 10Ks in the next few months, but I would like to get the feeling back that running 6 miles is easy.

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Putting on the Miles

Sept 4: 1 mile before karate, alone, in the rain.
Sept 5: 3.54 miles in 33:54 - 1 loop of the Park plus a little.

Technically, I was supposed to run for another minute, but I made it to the pull up area and the song ended, so I thought I should too. Plus, I did my situps and pushups as well. 25/25. Maybe next week I'll up it to 50/50. Then I just have to keep my daily miles above 2 and I'll be a fur-streaker.

As I sit here and write this, the sweat is literally dripping off me. Yuck.

Monday, September 3, 2012

Starbucks

I love how productive I am there. Yesterday, finished my critical writing assignment for cancer bio, read the chapter, and did the discussion questions. Today I did the database for the palliative care websearch SGO abstract, read more of Hallmarks f Cancer Next Generation, and set up Genvieve with the Precision database. And made my schedule for the rest of the week.

September 3: Prospect Park 1 mile

Miss karate today. But tomorrow's class is still an hour long, so it's all good. Plus, I'm going to get my black uniform tomorrow. :)

And I got my run in before the rain, which is starting now.

Sunday, September 2, 2012

September

Sept 1: 1 mile in Prospect Park
Sept 2: Full loop Prospect Park

And 25/25. Actually did 35 situps today. Got my haircut yesterday and today I'm going to sit and do some work. As well as tomorrow.

Still thinking about where I'm going to work next year. I think I know what the decision should be. It's just not what I expected, so it's making me pause more than I expected.

Friday, August 31, 2012

Between the Trees

Did my mile with some pick ups today. I figure since I ignored the speed work part of the training plan, I might as well add these in on occasion.

Had a great day (literally) with Dr. Fatehi today, really just talking.

August 31: 1 mile in Prospect Park

Either tomorrow or Saturday I'll do my long run - another loop of the Park. Getting my haircut tomorrow, so I guess it depends what time I wake up. And more importantly, what time I go to bed...

Thursday, August 30, 2012

In a Loop

So I didn't do my 30 min run yesterday. And after class today, I simply needed a nap. If I went to sparring, I would have gotten my ass kicked. So instead, a took an hour nap and then did my run.

August 30: 1 loop of Prospect Paek (3.3 miles, I think) in 33 minutes.

Situps and pushups when I get inside. But right now, I'm enjoying this beautiful night.

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Dinner with Lilly

Which means I didn't do my scheduled 30 min run. Maybe tomorrow...

August 29: ATB then 25/25

25 is getting easier, but not quite "easy." When it gets easy, I'll up it to 50/50. It'll be good for my longer runs anyhow.

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Mini-FUR streaker

So there's a Facebook group called FUR streaker 2/50/50. They run 2 miles a day, do 50 sit-ups and 50 push-ups. Oh, and 10 pull-ups, but those are optional. I decided to start it out at half. Still doing my mile, but now added the 25/25. Been at it a week so far and so far, so good!

Aug 25: 1 mile in Red Lodge before dinner
Aug 26: 1 mile in Red Lodge in the morning in 44 degrees in shorts and tank top (not quite dressed for the weather)
Aug 27: 1 mile before karate by myself
Aug 28: 1 mile before karate with Marco - glad he's back!

Yesterday, did plenty of sit-ups and push-ups at karate (well over 50 pushups and 3 min of situps). Today, I had to do them at home. Tomorrow it's an off day for karate, but I need to do a 30 min run for my training for the 10K!

Friday, August 24, 2012

Back in Billings

Never spent much time here to begin with, but enjoying it so far!

August 22: 1 mile outside in Denver
August 23: 1 mile on the treadmill in Billings
August 24: same

Another full day of interviews today. Then it's off to Red Lodge tomorrow. It's giving me a great deal to think about...

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Go West!

Back to Denver this morning. Then off to Montana. The real test begins.

Aug 19: Prospect Park 1 mile
Aug 20: ATB before karate
Aug 21: ATB before my flight

Fly out at 9:37am. Land at 12. Meet Rochelle. Unwind. Get ready for presentation tomorrow. Present then head to Montana...aaahhhh!

Saturday, August 18, 2012

Early Morning

Well, got out of bed by 7 when the alarm went off at 6. I consider that mildly successful for a weekend.

Aug 18: Prospect Park 1 mile

Right calf is tight and that ankle still hurts from karate last week. And the blister on my right foot. Guess if I cut off my right side at the knee, I'd be doing pretty well.

Time to shower/pack. Off to LI for writing day with Oggie and Jenny and then home on the ferry to see the family.

Friday, August 17, 2012

My blister

Thanks Sensei Ross. Whatever footwork drills we did last night game me a 3 cm blister on the ball of my right foot. Cut it open last night, put a blister block on it, but unlike my old blisters on my arches, this hits the ground with every step.

Aug 17: Prospect Park 1 mile

Got a training program for the 8K in November. Figured I could adapt it for the 10K in October. Course, this blister needs to heal!

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Missing Marco

No running buddy today at karate.

Aug 16: 1 mile before karate

Did finally break down and get some new kicks today. Had my running form looked at - I pronate a lot, which I would expect given my flat feet. Gonna run in the morning since I'm going to do dinner with Sarah.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Morning Run

Getting into a routine now. Run before karate on Mon & Tues, run in the morning Wed, before karate on Thurs and then ideally morning on Fri.

It's even nicer when the mid-week Wed run is later because I'm interviewing in Staten Island this morning.

Aug 13: 1 mile on my own before karate
Aug 14: 1 mile with Marco before karate
Aug 15: Prospect Park 1 mile

Upping the mileage? Yeah, still gotta do that. Maybe on a non-kicking week.

Sunday, August 12, 2012

After the Olympic Marathon

I can't even run a mile as fast as the men run one of their mile splits in the marathon! 4:42 at mile 23? Riiiight.

August 12: Prospect Park 1 mile

As I've said many times in the last 3+ years, I need to up my mileage. But this time, I have a reason. 10K I October, 8K in November. Better find a training plan!

Saturday, August 11, 2012

On Call Weekend

Starting off great...post op patient profusely vomiting, refuses NGT. Sigh.

August 10: ATB after work
August 11: Prospect Park 1 mile

Sitting on the bench for cool down. Not exactly looking forward to going in today...

Thursday, August 9, 2012

Sparring

Tires me out. A lot.

When I got to the dojo, I saw that Marco had just headed out for his loop. I talked him in to running a mile with me when I headed out. :)

August 9: ATB at karate

Bed early tonight.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Not Quite Hot, But Humid

So turns out the weathermen gave a scale for humidity. And a score over 70? Well, as they said on the news, equals "gross.". Yep, yep it does.

August 3: 1 mile in Vail
August 4: 1.06 mile run in Greenpoint with Patricia
August 5: ATB after getting home from LI
August 6: ATB after karate
August 7: 1 mile before karate with Marco
August 8: Prospect Park 1 mile

So the run in the morning leaves me free to study tonight. Last night was a great night catching up with old friends (Kirthi & Anita).

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Vail AACR/ASCO

This course has been stellar! I can even put into words...the most intense, most productive week for learning about clinical trials.

Course, this is an altitude thing here...I ran slow (10+ min miles) and drank a ton of water. It's done tonight, and tomorrow, head back to Denver.

July 28: 1 mile on treadmill
July 29: 1 mile slow outside
July 30: 1.2 miles
July 31: 1.5 miles
August 1: 1.1 miles
August 2: 1.3 miles

Friday, July 27, 2012

Getting Ready

For AACR/ASCO Clinical Trials Workshop. Flying out tonight to Denver, course starts tomorrow!

Time for laundry and packing. Then clinic and catching my flight!

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

July 21: 1 mile in Miami in the heat
July 22: 1 mile in Miami before the rain
July 23: Mile 1300+ around the block before karate
July 24: ATB before work
July 25: 1.25 miles around Prudential Center/Copley in Boston

Had dinner with Sarah last night. Thanks to Facebook, I can pretty much find someone in every city! Fly back to NYC tonight, then Colorado on Friday!

Friday, July 20, 2012

Ready for Miami

Tomorrow, heading with Tana to Miami. Never been and can't wait. Beach bound. :)

July 19: 1 mile before karate
July 20: Prospect Park 1 mile

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Rhythm

I think I've found mine. Run before karate on Mon, Tues, Thurs, run in AM Wed so I can study after work, and the weekends are up to me.

July 16: Before karate
July 17: Before karate (Sensei Ralph commented again that I was the only one doing it)
July 18: Prospect Park 1 mile

It's going to be hot today! 99 degrees.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Love LI

Another trip out for the weekend. Another moment with good friends. Another chance to get people to mention how much they want me back to the powers-that-be. Regardless of how unhappy that may make him. As Julie said, when she's asked what will make her happy, she said she'll reply "Erin." Gotta love them. Then a productive meeting with Melissa this morning...doing research and making plans. Becoming friends. :)

July 15: Prospect Park 1 mile

329 days til graduation.

Saturday, July 14, 2012

Ki-ya!

Wow. The difference in my body working out 3 times a week in karate is amazing. Never mind the bruises, that's a different conversation.

July 9: 1 mile before karate in Park Slope
July 10: Prospect Park 1 mile after karate
July 11: ATB in the AM
July 12: 1 mile before karate
July 13: ATB in the AM
July 14: Prospect Park 1 mile

Heading out to LI. Sun, fun and friends.

Sunday, July 8, 2012

Cooler today

Thankfully, my run was cooler today. Not as humid and definitely not as hot.

July 8: Prospect Park 1 mile

Got my hair chopped yesterday an going back for a keratin treatment today. So won't run til later tomorrow since it's supposed to set for at least 24 hours. I love my new cut and this salon, so I just hope this is worth the dough I'm throwing down!

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Noon Run

So much for my idea of an "early run" when I didn't drag myself outside til noon. And I only ran at noon because when I checked the weather, noon was going to be cooler than 10 pm.

July 7: Prospect Park 1 mile

Gonna get my hair chopped today. It's too f-in' hot.

Friday, July 6, 2012

It's Getting Hot In Here

Starting to feel like my first summer in Brooklyn. 90-100 degrees, hazy, hot, and humid. Ick.

July 5: ATB
July 6: Prospect Park 1 mile

Weird to have fellowship interviews today. But time moves on...

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

The 4th 4th

Of July and my running streak. Happy 4th!

July 4: Prospect Park 1 mile

Now...shower and Coney Island!

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Pre-4th

July 2: ATB
July 3: Prospect Park 1 mile

I really have to start upping my mileage. 10K in October, 8K in November.

Tomorrow, Coney Island.

Sunday, July 1, 2012

I go, you go, WAGO

Last meeting of second year of fellowship. Huntington Beach, CA. Friends, sun, fun and oncology. Love it.

June 27: 1 mile along beach before reception
June 28: 1 mile along beach
June 29: 1 mile along beach
June 30: 1 mile along beach before the red eye back to NYC
July 1: Prospect Park 1 mile

It's hotter here than it was in Cali. Spent the day sleeping in my air conditioned apartment. Tomorrow, third year of fellowship really begins.

Oh, and 3 1/2 years of running everyday. Not too shabby. :)

Had to update the post because I said 3 1/2 days not YEARS!

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

That's All She Wrote

Or at least all I'm going to write for a while. Hypogastric embolization paper-submitted. Synovial sarcoma-submitted. UPSC-resubmitted (after 3 rejections). HgA1c-revisions submitted, fingers crossed. Leg pain-submitted.

All my projects from the last year-wrapped up and submitted, with the exception of Jaffe's ovarian cancer paper. Which means when I return from WAGO, my focus is thesis and clinical trial. Plus finishing up the little projects I've got going on, but these will be my two big ones. And focusing on karate, getting a job, and my all around well being. Oh, and studying for the boards.

June 25: Prospect Park before karate
June 26: Prospect Park after karate

Tomorrow morning, it's off to the beach. :)

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Morning Bike Races

I love watching the bike races on Sunday mornings while I do my run. I usually catch them twice - once while I run and once when I'm done. Snapped some pictures this morning as they sped by.

June 24: Prospect Park 1 mile

Today, it's finish some papers and get ready for the 2 day week I have ahead!

Saturday, June 23, 2012

Morning Run, Afternoon Penn

Pennsylvania that is. Off to visit Scotty, Leigh, my godson Lucas and the peanut growing in Leigh's belly.

June 23: Prospect Park 1 mile

I better start getting my mileage up again soon. Rock and Roll 10K is in October and it'll be here before I know it!

Friday, June 22, 2012

After the Storm

Finally, the thunderstorms broke the heat. I did my run after the second wave, and though I'm still sweating, it's a much better temp.

June 22: Prospect Park 1 mile

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Sparring

I kinda like being able to run my mile before karate. Makes me sweaty and all that for class, and when Sensei Ross teaches, I have to run again, but then I don't have to worry about doing it after.

June 21: ATB by karate

Tomorrow morning I head out to SB to meet with Griffin about my job. Then it's dinner with Tana to celebrate her boards!

Blue Sky Saturday

It is perfectly beautiful out today. Bright blue sky, sun, not humid but warm. A perfect beach day or park day or general sit-outside-and-play day.

June 16: Prospect Park 1 mile

And now I'm sitting on the bench outside the park contemplating life.

Research Days Gone By

When it comes down to it, I want to come back to the 'Brook. Everyone knows that. Who knows if the powers that be want me back, but in my heart, I know I want to be there.

June 13: Bally's around the track like old days
June 14: Prospect Park 1 mile
June 15: Prospect Park 1 mile

Jenny won Stony Brook's research day. So proud of her, and so glad I decided to go to the night to see her get the award. Left me to run at Bally's like old times, except now it's a run down stripped down gym. That at least still had the track upstairs. And after an outfit shopping spree at Target, I looked semi-presentable. And had a mostly great time.

Heading to LI

One research down, one to go!
June 12: ATB
Now it's time to go home to the 'Brook with a smile on my face. I've got a line now. :)

Memorial Day in Prospect Park

May 28: 2+ miles around the park

I ran for most and then walked the last mile or so. It's hot today but beautiful out - the first day (and last day) of u vacation not screwed up by rain.

Not looking forward to taking call starting tonight. But it's just two weeks. My last 2 weeks on service and then it's really off to the lab.

Saturday, May 26, 2012

Clouds and Rain

I'm beginning to think that's the theme of my vacation. Today was cloudy and then at 6 pm, torrential downpour. So I ran at 9.

May 26: ATB - you could almost see te steam coming up from the sidewalk.

Tomorrow, off to see my godson and crew.

Friday, May 25, 2012

1/13.1 of the Brooklyn Half

This morning, when I decided I wanted coffee, I realized that mile 7 of the Brooklyn Half was right out my door. So I cheered for an hour or so til the park cleared up and then I did my own run...but just a mile.

May 19: 1 mile Prospect Park

Now it's time to shower, hit up b&n for some books and then head to the ferry terminal. It's a beautiful day!

Friday, May 18, 2012

Ahhhhh...

Big sigh of relief. All of the presentations over the last 2 1/2 weeks are done and vacation is here!
May 16: Prospect Park 1 mile - did some pick ups between the trees in the first half of the run
May 17: ATB
May 18: Prospect Park lower loop 1.75

Now I'm off to a pedicure and dinner with Tana. I way overpacked for the cruise, but I don't care. Tomorrow I'll hit up b&n for some books and then it's off to Bermuda!

Misstep

So I was doing my run tonight and thinking about how I love my routine late night "around the block" mile. I feel like I know every step of the ground and never take a misstep...
And then I ran around the corner and twisted my ankle.

Sigh.

Jumps Week

Oh. My. Quads.
So this week was jumps week at karate. Not only am I sore as hell, I can barely run.

April 23: ATB after karate. Already hobbling, and I ran within an hour of class.
April 24: Same. And much worse.
April 25: Prospect Park 1 mile. In almost 12 minutes. I can barely lift my legs.

But sore is good, right? No pain, no gain?

Sunday, April 22, 2012

Running in the Rain

It's much needed rain.

April 20: Prospect Park 1 mile
April 21: Prospect Park 1 mile in AM

Early Morning, Late Night

Been running in the morning, working late into the evening.

April 18: ATB
April 19: ATB

Finished my presentation for Denver. Submitted a paper. Finalizing another two papers. Getting started on another two. And then starting some new projects. Oh yeah, and Grand Rounds on Monday. Nevermind the interview process for a job...

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Karate

Today's class not so bad. Dropped Tana off at the subway, got to the dojo around 6, and as Sensei wants us to do, I went out for my run.

April 17: ATB before karate

This week was a 'lighter' week in class. Which is good, because my body is still recovering from acrobatics. And I have a sh*tload of work to do...presentations to finish. But conferences coming up soon!

Monday, April 16, 2012

Long Island Weekend

April 13: ATB in AM
April 14: Prospect Park 1 mile
April 15: ATB in PM
April 16: Up the Hill

So Friday I ran early so I could do dinner in Union Square with Tana. Saturday I ran early before heading to write papers with Oggie, have dinner with Melissa and Michael and drinks with Arlene and Loren. Sunday was a little less productive but I got back on the horse today. Plus karate tonight.

Thursday, April 12, 2012

In the Morning

I did my run so the day could be productive!

April 12: ATB

Now it's a meeting at Methodist, back to Downstate to meet the stats guy, lecture, tumor board, and hopefully can sneak a brachytherapy in there too. Followed by Thurs night study night at Starbucks.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Happy Easter

April 7: CT Lima St run
April 8: ATB

So I didn't make it home Friday night in time to hang out with Heather and Jen, but we managed to do it last night after a very successful day of shopping. Sat morning I got my cannoli french toast with my dad to keep up the energy for all the shopping Jen and I did. Then today it was Easter lunch with the fam and then to the apple store to figure out how to do the video for the AAGL submission. And now,my run's done and the bed is calling me.

Friday, April 6, 2012

Friday, Friday

Karate did help on Monday. Really helped to pull me out of my funk.

April 3: ATB
April 4: ATB
April 5: ATB
April 6: ATB before work

Tonight, it's off to CT for dinner with Heather and Jen and hanging with the fam for Easter.

Struggling

That's what I've been doing for the last week. Can't focus, can't get the forboding sense of doom out of my chest. I haven't enjoyed it. So though I woke up at 6 this am and ran, I didn't get into work til almost 8.

April 2: prospect park 1 mile

Hopefully karate will help tonight.

Sunday, April 1, 2012

Lower Loop

So I ran it on mapmyrun today and determined that it's 1.75 miles around.

April 1: 1.75 in 15 min (8:39 pace)

Figure if I'm going to run the National Race to End Women's Cancer on Nov 4, I better start running longer distances. It's an 8K.

Saturday, March 31, 2012

84 to 39?

Last week in Austin it was 84 degrees and sunny every day. I heard it was nice here too in Brooklyn, in the 60s.

Not anymore.

Today, I ran in 39 degree sleet.

March 31: Prospect Park 1 mile

Spring, come back!

Austin Adventures

SGO, as expected, was a ton of fun. Minus my complete intoxication on Sunday night...But it was a week of old friends, new friends, awesome food, fabulous education.

March 23: 1.01 miles
March 24: 1.21 miles
March 25: 1.02 miles
March 26: 1.48 miles
March 27: 1.02 miles

March 28: 1.68 miles to get my car
March 29: ATB
March 30: ATB

My run later today will have to be another post.

Spring!

March 12: atb after karate
March 13: atb after work in shorts!
March 14: atb again in shorts!

March 8: 10:13 run with Diana (~1.5 miles)

Being a Fellow

Now I'm trying to plan the resident/fellow happy hour for SGO. Kenny, Anuj and I have exchanged emails tonight getting ready for planning it and trying to secure some funding for it. In the meantime, I'm enjoying a quiet service at work and trying to get some things accomplished. So far, so good.

Feb 22: Prospect Park 1 mile (got out early)
Feb 23: ATB (after I finish watching Grey's Anatomy)

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Feb 18: Minneapolis on treadmill in hotel
Feb 19: Minneapolis on treadmill in hotel
Feb 20: ATB

The Exxcellence course was AWESOME. Wish I was back there. Had a great weekend with Ali in Minneapolis ~ was wonderful catching up. I definitely enjoyed the almost-two-weeks-off.

Next up, APGO - 2 weeks to go!

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

V Day

Feb 12: 3-4 miles in an attempt to run around Lake Las Vegas only to realize it was a lot farther than we thought!
Feb 13: Mile on the treadmill and then relaxing in the hot tub (under 8 min mile)
Feb 14: Mile outside after a nap

So far, this course is great. It's solidifying a lot in regards to study design and getting me to think about it. It's brought me in touch with a bunch of people that I've really enjoying hanging out with (including til 1 am last night). The nap was much needed today.

Another weekend on call...

Jan 27: ATB after work
Jan 28; Prospect Park 1 mile
Jan 29: Prospect Park 1 mile

Ran in the morning the last two days. Today checked out the Amerikick Karate Tournament at the dojo. Would definitely be interested in competing in the future once I go up the belt ranks a little...

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Great Residents

I have to say, I've got great residents on service right now. Which makes my life so much better being on call while the first year fellow is gone. Actually, just having my first year fellow gone makes my life so much better.

Jan 23: ATB
Jan 24: ATB
Jan 25: ATB
Jan 26: ATB

Only made it to karate once this week; Going to try to check out the tournament this weekend on Sunday and eventually I've got to make up the classes. Hopefully the curriculum class on Saturday will start soon so I can do another day. Didn't really like MMA - I like the IDEA of it, I'm just afraid of getting hurt.

Sunday, January 22, 2012

Crisp Snow Run

So it's 22 degrees out. Running on the snow hearing that "crunch, crunch" under my feet. Felt good.

Jan 22: Prospect Park 1 mile

Guess it's time to hit up Starbucks. Also want to catch the football games later!

Saturday, January 21, 2012

Snow!

First real snow this winter (since the October snowstorm was technically in the fall). Wonderful run in Prospect Park in the snow.

Jan 19: ATB
Jan 20: ATB
Jan 21: Prospect Park 1 mile

Good think it's only about 1 inch - otherwise who knows if they would have dug us out here in Brooklyn.

Started running with my iPod again instead of my iheartradio app on my blackberry. I think I need to purchase some more times. Yet at the same time, I need to purchase a lot less of things. These conferences coming up are getting pricey!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

Bye again Meriden

Jan 17: Oak St Run
Jan 18: Lima St Run

Post op visit for mom today at the doctor. All is well. So after dinner with dad, I'm back in Brooklyn tonight getting to go to work in the morning. Bleh.

Monday, January 16, 2012

Bored in CT

So far, vacation's awful boring. Not overly motivated to do anything. Not that I should be motivated - it is vacation after all.

Jan 14: Lima Run
Jan 15: Oak St Run
Jan 16: Lima Run

It's been cold here in CT. Cold cold cold.

Friday, January 13, 2012

Mom's Surgery

Jan 9: ATB
Jan 10: ATB
Jan 11: ATB
Jan 12: Lima run at home at night
Jan 13: Lima run at home in the morning

So mom had her gastric bypass yesterday so I'm home in CT for the week. I hate hanging out at hospitals when I'm not paid to be in them. But all's gone well. :)

Sunday, January 8, 2012

My New Mac

It's been a week of running...and a week of dead computers.

Jan 3: ATB after work
Jan 4: ATB after work
Jan 5: ATB after work
Jan 6: ATB after work
Jan 7: One full loop of Prospect Park (3.36 miles)
Jan 8: Prospect Park 1 mile

So Thursday night, when I was buying my ticket to Orlando, my computer crashed to the floor. And then, Windows didn't load anymore. So I took it to Best Buy yesterday morning in the hopes of at least getting my data off it. No such luck. Hard drive is actually cracked and crashed their computers as well when they tried to get the data. So I finally broke down and this morning, at a very early hour, got on the subway to the 5th Ave Apple Store in the City and got myself a brand spanking new 13 inch MacBook Air. And so far, I love it. Though I'm still trying to figure out how to make it work. And download all the stuff I need (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) to begin trying to figure out how to make the data I do have work.

Monday, January 2, 2012

Damn Lungs

I even took my inhaler before I went out today but still started wheezing halfway through...I might have to make my way to an internist soon to get a controller. Boo.

Jan 2: Lower Lake Prospect Park Paths (1-1.25 miles)

Would have gone further, but the lungs just hurt. And I had good layers on the top but too many on the bottom. Didn't actually need my long johns today. But according to the weather, I will in the next few days!

Sunday, January 1, 2012

Twenty-Twelve

Happy New Year!

Dec 29: ATB before work
Dec 30: Elm to Lima and back, down Silver to Broad to Olive and Home (damn dog at the top of the Lima hill)
Dec 31: 5K in Prospect Park at 11:15 pm with Jerry, Regina, Diana and Mike. Happy New Year! (29:11 - not bad for having to walk up part of the hill)
Jan 1: Prospect Park 1 mile

Today it is gorgeous out. 50 degrees, warm, comfortable, beautiful to run in. My shin splints are acting up a little, but I did some stretching and feel pretty good right now. Hope to love 2012!

Oh yeah, 3 years in the books! Bring on Year #4!
