Livin' at the Hospital
Dec 28: Around the block run at lunchtime
Dec 29: Around the block run at 8 pm
Dec 30: Around the block run at 9 pm
So Sunday at 10 pm I got called in for a delivery. Actually 2. They both delivered on Monday morning (6:07 and 7:35). So I did morning hours and then went home to run and shower at lunchtime. Then I came home to crash at 5 pm except I got paged back at 9:30 pm for another delivery. Which of course, delivered at 7:15 am. Then I had hours for OB patients all day, which kept me quite busy. And then a preterm labor patient after hours which kept me at the hospital til 8 pm. So I ran after that and then absolutely CRASHED.
Today I got to go to the OR during the day for a hyst and then did a lap chole with Kaderis. Got me home at 9 pm and then did my run. Tomorrow I have 2 OR cases and 1 patient and then I'm going to make some phone calls and run during the day.
And then, that will be 365 straight days of running a mile every day.

Oh My Screaming Lungs!
So yesterday afternoon I went over Susan's house for Boxing Day. That was nice, but even though I didn't see any, I'm pretty sure she had cats.
Which has kept me up all night wheezing. And now, my inhaler isn't really helping anymore.
Damnit.
And of course, that means I struggled through my run.
Dec 27: Golf course
Weather: 7 degrees, sunny, feels like 7
Feeling: Lungs are tight, legs/knees hurt from running on the ice. But running in snow isn't any easier...which made my lungs hurt more.
Well, it's off to the office to do charts. In an hour or so. And I'll probably grab lunch first.

Running in Circles
Dec 26: Around the block, counterclockwise
Feelin' good. Finally have all my Christmas presents packed for mailing ~ meant to actually get to the post office BEFORE it closed, but alas, didn't work out that way. So I'll go on Monday. Apartment is clean, laundry is pretty much done, life is organized.
Tomorrow, I attack all the charts in my office. Time to catch up again.

Merry Christmas!
Dec 25: Golf Course
Well, it's Christmas and I'm sitting in my apartment, looking out the window at the snow blowing by. The roast chicken is in the oven and should be done in an hour or so. My pager has been quiet, which has been nice. I slept through the night, which was awesome. I opened my presents this morning from my brother and sister-in-law and my parents. Loved that my brother picked out a picture of the cousins to give me. Loved that my mom finally got me a blue bead for my Pandora bracelet. And the blanket that my mom me was great cause it's soft and fuzzy and big. I'm cuddled up in that as I'm surfing the net.
And my Christmas present to myself? I paid off my credit card. $29K is gone. I have less than $1000 left on my car, which is now collecting dust in CT since Kev and Jen got a new car. And now I have my taxes to go and then saving for the down payment for my apartment. I feel great about this. I still need a financial planner to get all my insurance stuff straight, but that'll come.
And I have one week to go of running every day. I'm glad I ran before the snowstorm really picked up.
Merry Christmas all!

Last Weekend Before Christmas
Not that I've done any shopping...
Dec 19: Around the block, counterclockwise
Dec 20: Through the Golf Course
It's really damn slippery today. We got some frozen rain last night, so there's a layer of ice right above all the snow that's been there. Which makes the roads trecherous, which is why I ran through the golf course on the snow.
11 days left in this year. Then the money is split between Heather, Dana and I.

Running in Daylight!
Change of pace for the last two days...yesterday I was done in the OR by 1 pm so I decided to run in the afternoon and then head back to work. Today, I finished by 4 so I was able to get out in the sun while it was setting.
Dec 17: Around the block counterclockwise
Clothes: Just my tights and blue NB shirt and vest. Even ran in a baseball cap!
Dec 18: Around the block counterclockwise
Clothes: Tights and long johns, red Nike undershirt and blue NB shirt and vest. Back to ski cap.
Well, there's 2 weeks left. That's it. And then I've run a mile every day for a year.

Waiting for the Heat Wave
So at the end of the week, it's going to go above freezing again. Not just above zero, but above freezing! However, that's not the case right now. It snowed about 6 inches last night (was already snowing when I left the Christmas Party) and someone came and shoveled my front walk, which was awesome. That means I don't have to go buy a shovel. Yet.
I cleaned my apartment today. Well, tidied. I don't actually "clean" ~ I put things away, wipe things down, but don't do things like scrub or vaccuum.
My goal is to get to the office by 2 pm. I have about 35 charts to do, so that'll be a good 6 hours. But I'm determined to not start the week behind.
Dec 13: Around the block
Clothes: All the layers
Weather: -5 degrees, cloudy, feels like -23 degrees
Feeling: oooh, cold. You know it's bad when your eyelashes are freezing because of tears.

Christmas Party Day
Today's the Christmas Party for Holy Rosary. I'm going over Tonette's before with Jackie and Lisa and then heading to the party. So of course, I had to get my run in.
I've taken it easy today. Caught up on One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl, finished my book, and now did my run.
Dec 12: Around the block - backwards
Weather: 16 degrees
Feeling: Alright. Tired. Really would rather just stay in bed all day.
But I don't have that option. So I'll be showering shortly, and straightening my hair, and then heading to Tonette's.

So today started at twenty below zero. Luckily, it warmed up as the day went on.
Dec 9: Around the Block
Weather: 12 degrees, feels like -4
Clothes: same as before
Feeling: Pretty good. Took it somewhat slow since the roads are coated in snow and ice.
Another day, another dollar. Tomorrow I get to do some surgery. Woohoo!

Minus 21?
That's not the number of days left...that's how cold it felt today. It was actually minus 4 degrees.
Dec 8: Around the Block
Songs: Panic at the Disco, December 1963, Miami
Weather: Hmmm...checking now, -7 degrees, feels like -25.
Clothes: Same as the last few days...except I felt cold at the beginning and okay at the end.
Feeling: Irony, with the songs. Miami? Heat is on? Yeah, not so much.
Or actually minus 7. Somewhere in between.
Crazy.

Feels like - 16??
Dec 7: Around the block
Weather: 1 degree, light snow, feels like -16 degrees.
Clothes: All the layers ~ and it was just enough.
Feeling: That's freakin' cold!
Well, that's definitely the coldest I've ever run in. Minus sixteen??

Snow!
Dec 6: Golf course ~ sandpile and back
Clothes: 2 pants, 3 shirts, vest, hat and sunglasses
Weather: 7 degrees, light snow, feels like 1 degree
Feeling: Probably a little too many shirts again. Just thought I'd need it given the cold temperatures!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. The snow does mean I don't feel like going to the hospital today. Working on laundry and dishes and other things around the house. Probably going to pull out my tax stuff to work on today as well.

Snowing!
Dec 5: Golf Course ~ Extended Run
Weather: 17 degrees, light snow, feels like 1 degree
Clothes: Too many layers, I think. Long johns and tights (that was okay) and the three shirt combo from the day before. Probably could have gone without the green shirt. But at least I was warm.
Feeling: Pretty good ~ even sweaty at the end. But I've got to start running farther if I'd like to run NYC next year.
Yeah, that's my newest idea. I've been tossing it around again for a while, but I was thinking about running it in honor of my godson. Thought it'd be a nice honor.

Long Week
Haven't actually slept through the night all week. Have woken up at least once a night between 2-4 am. Not even because of the train ~ I don't know why. But I could really use a good night sleep.
And it's been COLD.
Dec 3: Around the Block
Weather: 14 degrees
Layers: Eddie Bauer long johns plus running tights, Nike turtleneck, black EMS hoodie, green long sleeve and vest, gloves, hat and neck warmer
Damn it's cold.
Dec 4: Around the Block
Weather: 23 degrees (got out a little earlier today...ran before 6 pm)
Layers: Long johns, tights, Nike turtleneck, green longsleeve and vest, hat and gloves
Enjoying most of my patients still. Do have charts to do from today (20 or so) but that's not bad. I did manage to keep up all week, which has been quite nice!!!

Golf Course
So didn't get to stay home on Thanksgiving day. Instead, I had another baby boy. Then Katrina had her baby boy, and Vicki had her baby boy today, which means that all of my friends have boys. Still have a few out there to deliver, but not many left. Meant I had Thanksgiving Dinner at the hospital. Luckily, Dave's wife is a good cook.
Did a little exploring today in the golf course. Ran around the country club and down by a different set of holes, around the back of the course and back to the path I usually run on. Took me a long time to get out of bed and get moving this morning. But I finally got out around noon and had a really nice run.
Nov 27: Golf course ~ standard run to the lake and back (before rounds)
Nov 28: Golf course ~ standard run to the sand pile and back (before rounds)
Nov 29: Golf course ~ exploring run (noontime)
Songs: Brian Wilson, Love Song, Let's Get it Started
Feeling: Pretty good. Back hurts a little. Tried swinging the kettle bell around a little to stretch out my muscles. Especially knowing that I'm going to be stooped over my desk for the next 6 hours.
35 charts to go. Then I've caught up on all my charting for the last month. And then, I'll try to get ahead. So many things I'd like to do this year. So many things!
Oh, and I've got 33 days left in the year. I think I'm going to keep running. If I don't, I'll never work out.

Happy Thanksgiving!
It's been a busy week. I kicked it off on Sunday with the start of a week long delivery spree - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Keeps me busy.
Nov 24: Ran at the hospital because I had a laboring patient; Ran Wilson to Haynes to B street
Nov 25: Ran around the block
Nov 26: Ran the golf course to the lake
And all the babies I've delivered are BOYS!
Here's for hoping that the laboring patients stay home today and I get to have a restful Thanksgiving Day!

Christmas Lights?!?
I hate Christmas lights before Thanksgiving. One holiday at a time, people! But there was a house ablazin' on my run tonight...
Nov 23: Around the Block
Feeling: Cold, don't want to run.
Songs: Let it Rock, Panic at the Disco
Well, we're getting down to only a month to go. It was cold tonight, much different than the last few runs. And I'm looking forward to a good old fashioned nap. :) Bedtime for me!

It's a BOY!
Did my run this morning, right after getting a page that one of my patients would be heading in with ruptured membranes.
Nov 22: Golf Course
Feeling: Nice day, body felt okay, weather's good, sun is shining!
And then I went to the hospital ~ and delivered a baby boy named Parker. The first boy after 3 girls, who are easily some of the cutest little kids I've even seen. Nicest couple, easiest delivery, just a wonderful day.
Now, I'm going to bed because I've got another wonderful patient to deliver tomorrow that I can't wait to see how big her baby is!

What's with the Weather?
So a few posts ago I wrote how I thought I'd have to retire my baseball cap. Guess I spoke too soon.
Nov 20: Around the block - clockwise
Nov 21: Around the block - counter-clockwise
Mixed it up a little today. Ran at dusk and ran in just my NYC Marathon shirt, vest, tights and baseball cap. Watched little kids riding around earlier today on their bikes in t-shirts. Guess winter hasn't quite found its way to eastern Montana yet and I'm okay with that!

Nov 19: Around the Block
Today I wore my new neck scarf from Under Armor, bought at Murdocks with my gift certificate on Tuesday. Kept my neck and chin warm. Cheeks a little cold. Still have to figure out how to wear it as a half neck/face warmer. Next time, I guess.
Time for bed.

Birthday Weekend and more
Nov 15: Golf Course run at 9 am
Nov 16: Around the Block at 5 pm
Nov 17: Around the Block at 6:30 pm
After the run on the 15th, we left for South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore. Hit up Rapid City, which allowed for some real shopping, and then back home the afternoon of my birthday. All in all, a pretty good birthday. Chris left early in the morning on the 17th and I came home last night with full intention to sleep all the way through the night ~ until I got a text message at 3 am that my godson, Lucas Ryan Cook, was born. :)
So I'm going to try the go to bed early thing today.

Giving Up the Cap
The baseball cap, that is. It's now finally consistently hitting temperatures that my ears are getting cold at, despite running during the day in the sun. Granted, it was early when I ran today, but I think it's time. 47 days remaining in the year. I've been running for 318 straight days. And I think I'm going to continue this into next year.
Nov 14: Golf Course
Songs: Let's Get it Started, Dirty Pop
Feeling: Pretty good - cold ears though.
Chris Page comes to visit today...he'll be here at 2:45. Should be a fun weekend!

Just Another Run
Nov 11: Around the block 4th-6th
Time of Day: 6:45 pm
I came home early and was planning to call it an early night, but Peter called and wanted to grab dinner before he left town. Then we ran into Rauh so we ended up having a larger dinner party than expected. But it was nice. I like that I'm liked in the community...it makes for some good old fashioned fun.

New Shoes!
So yesterday, my long-awaited new shoes arrived. I ordered the DS Trainer 14 from Road Runner Sports. They're supposed to be the update of the Trainers I had that I ran NYC in. So I've now got 2 runs under my belt in them.
Nov 6: Around the Block
Feeling: Weather's nice, feeling fast
Nov 7: Golf Course
Time: 10:01
Feeling: Eh. Knee hurts a little, calf cramp last night.
Not feeling anything "amazing" in these shoes. Still probably have to break them in.

A Nice Dinner
Tonight, I went out with Peter, Shantell, and Danielle from Billings Clinic. It was a really nice dinner and it's nice to talk to people, especially when I'm really all by myself out here. It's interesting and fun and I really do like it out here. The things I've managed to get involved with have been spectacular and I'm really enjoying myself.
And so I had to rest my stomach again after too much to eat before running.
November 5: Around the block
Songs: Panic at the Disco, Devil Went Down to Georgia
Feeling: Pretty fast for as full as I was...probably under 7 based on song length
Ok, time to go to bed.

Day 307
Just another mile to run. :)
Nov 3: Around the block, 4th-6th
Songs: Hot and Cold, Disturbia
Feeling: Alright, little cramp in my side, need to eat better.
Ok, here's the sad thing. I'm pretty sure that I've said I need to eat better for the last 11 months. At least I can keep running my mile. :)

Watching the Yankees...
wondering if they'll pull this off.
Ran during the bottom of the 8th and is now watching Jeter at the plate.
Nov 2: Around the block, 4-6th
Songs: Misunderstood, Let's Dance
Felt okay, especially considering my big dinner at the Rib and Chop.

Starting Month 11
November 1: Golf Course to Sandpile and Back
Distance: 1 mile
Time: not today
Weather: 46, cloudy, feels like 41
Music: Akon/Eminem, Single Ladies, Mizunderstood
Feeling: Slightly overdressed ~ wore my NYC marathon shirt and my vest - probably didn't need the vest. Also, forgot my inhaler again. Probably should be on a controller at this point.
Today's the NYC Marathon. I remember where I was 3 years ago, huddled on Staten Island. Who knows, maybe I'll be there again next year? Can't wait to go home again.

I Don't Wanna Work...
I want to bang on the drum all day...
Ok, I don't necessarily want to bang on the drum, but I definitely don't want to go to work. I have a billion charts sitting in my office that I KNOW I have to do this weekend but I really just plain don't feel like it.
Oct 28: Around the Block
Oct 29: Around the Block
Oct 30: Around the Block
Oct 31: Golf Course to Tompy and home
Distance: 1+ mile
But I did get very exciting news last night ~ Scotty and Leigh have picked me to be the godmother of their first baby. Drew's going to be the godfather. It's going to be a boy, which will be great fun for the two of us. I can't wait to spoil this kid! I already set up CBR for him for 18 years and I hope that he never has to use it...

The Night Before Match Day...
Alright, so maybe it's a little less climatic than residency match. There's no big party, there's no drinking at noon, there's no Laura and Lorna with me for support. It's just me, at 10 am tomorrow, logging on to nrmp and hoping that I'm a fellow.
Oct 26: Around the Block - 4th-6th
Oct 27: Around the Block - 4th-6th

Had to drag myself up today...and I'm still not really up. But I did manage my run.
Oct 25: Golf Course
Time: 9 min
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Though it's supposively only 39 degrees, I'm sweating!
Okay, I have a ton of charts to tackle in the office. Time to shower and get to work!

Another Big Move
So now I'm in my new place and finally have internet hooked up. And now I've got some new places to run.
I didn't leave the hotel until Saturday, so my last runs were my traditional ones.
Oct 15: BW and back
Oct 16: BW and back
Then from Saturday on, I was here in my new place on South Fourth.
Oct 17: "Around the block" Down Fourth to Atlantic, Right on Atlantic to Fifth, Right on Fifth to Eagle, Right on Eagle to home, then back down Eagle to the pool and back
Distance: 1 mile
Time: 8:50
Stupid Move of the Run: Forgot to take my inhaler...which is why I came home before finishing the run.
Oct 18: Golf course
Time: 12:42
Distance: 1+ miles
Oct 19: Around the block
Oct 20: Around the block
Oct 21: Around the block
Oct 22: Around the block
Oct 23: Around the block - 'cept I went to 6th instead of 5th this time.
Oct 24: Golf course
Time: 10+ minutes
Distance: 1+ miles
Feeling: It's fun to run randomly around!
I'm going to try to go back to being diligent about this again. Now that I've got internet, I should be better. It's now time to get clean for some MCC benefit tonight!

What Happened to Fall?
Wondering what happened to fall ~ the last few nights have been C-O-L-D!
Oct 13: BW and back
Oct 14: BW and back
And tonight, I went to look at an apartment and took it. Fully furnished, really nicely done! Bedroom, kitchen and living room upstairs, another living room downstairs with a third room off the side that can be an exercise room or office. Sweet! Now I've got to pack up all my stuff and move tomorrow or Friday. Woohoo!

Guess I forgot to update all week...
Oct 5: BW and back
Oct 6: BW and back
Oct 7: BW and back
Oct 8, at 3 am, I started my drive Billings. Spent a long time flying and managed to make it to the rehearsal right at 6 pm. Got locked in a closet trying to change my clothes...
Oct 8: From Middletown Inn to Ferry St and back
Distance: ~ 1 mile
Time of Day: ~ 11 pm
Oct 9: Middletown Inn to Ferry St and back
Time of Day: ~ 8 am
Oct 10: THE WEDDING DAY! Same run as the last few days
Time of Day: ~ 8:45 am
Oct 11: The departure day
Time of Day: ~ 10 am
Well, that was supposed to be the departure day...except I forgot to check in and we got to the airport 29 minutes before my flight, which meant I wasn't getting on it. Alright, maybe this was a little intentional...I really didn't want to get on a plane!
Oct 12: Sheraton at BDL Treadmill
Distance: 1.06 miles
Time: 8:30ish
And now, I need to shower, pack, and go check in at the airport. Cause I don't think I can miss this plane!

Seeing My Breath
Ah, winter.
Can't say I'm so sure about what happened to fall. Being that summer seemed like it was last week ~ it was 80 degrees. And now it's supposed to snow tonight somewhere between 4 and 10 inches.
Went out on my run this morning before heading into the office. I still had a billion charts all piled up to do and I didn't feel like running at night. So off I went this morning.
Oct 4: Down to Wilson, up the wellness walk, to the end of B road and back
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: I was actually sort of warm in my vest. But I could see my breath, so I know it was cold out!
Don't know when I'm going to run tomorrow yet. Probably after work. Still want to try to drive to Billings in the morning to operate, but that's going to depend on how much snow we get.

Charting Sucks
I'd love to see patients, scribble some notes, and move on. But no, there's all these rules...which leaves me with about 25 charts in my office that I have to finish by Monday. Got about 10 done today. Semi-focused, and did a little research in the interim. Tomorrow, it's to work early and stay til it's done.
So I ran tonight cause it was damn cold this morning. But it's supposed to start snowing tomorrow night so I better run in the morning.
Oct 3: BW and back
Feeling: Not as cold as I thought.
Oh, and I stopped by Wal Mart and got a ice scraper/brush combo, a scarf, some stretchy gloves and a hat. Just in case.

So it's a new month. Only 90 days to go of running every day. The next days this will be difficult ~ the night of the rehearsal dinner, the morning of the wedding, the day after the wedding. Good thing it's only a mile!

Call Weekend!
Sept 18: Best Western and back
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Had a HUGE dinner at Pizza Hut after a very long week. Came home, took a nap, and out to run at 9. In bed by 9:30.
At around 5:45 am, a funny sound woke me up. I wasn't quite sure what it was. I looked at the phone, looked at my alarm clock, and then saw the pager sitting by the side of my bed. Holy Shit! Fully dilated multip. Had a baby at 6:19. :)
Came back home, finished sleeping, went back, finished rounding (all my OR cases have safely gone home and are doing well) and then hit the charts in the office til 5. Then went to watch the volleyball game and ran after.
Sept 19: Down the first road to the hospital, around the parking lot, down Wilson and back.
Time: 9:40
Distance: 1+ mile
Crashed again last night, slept in til 8, read in bed for a while, had breakfast and then ran.
Sept 20: BW and back
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Just get it done...supposed to rain later today so it was worth just getting out there and doing it.
Today, it's back to the hospital to round on my PP patient and finish up all the charts in my office. Then I'm going to work on handouts and stuff to get the office in order. I swear I can make this all work!

OR Day!
Sept 14, 15, 16, 17: To Best Western and back
Distance: 1 mile
Only timed it on Wed: 6:44
Today was my first day as an attending in the OR. Did a breast abscess, a TAH, and a TLH.
And I'm tired. The bed is calling, but so will Kaderis at some point for me to go in to help him with a bowel resection. I can sleep when I'm dead.

Wyoming?
Yesterday was my onc interview in Oklahoma. Knowing that my flight was going to get into Billings at 8 pm and that I wouldn't get into Miles City until 10 or so, I figured I should run in the morning. So I woke up at 5:30 am and ran on the treadmill, which I haven't done since SGO.
Sept 12: Treadmill at Skrivin Hotel
Distance: 1.07 miles
Time: less than 8 minutes
Feeling: Pretty fast for a treadmill!
So after my interview, which makes it more difficult to figure out my top programs, I got on the plane. And I landed in Billings and got to my car by 8:30ish. So I should be back in Miles City by 10:30. So I got on the highway and started driving...
And about an hour into my drive, I started noticing that the highway was a little more windy than I remembered it. Then I noticed that the mile markers on the side were much higher numbers than I remembered. So when I could, I pulled over and looked at the map. And realized that I was on highway 90 instead of 94, which meant...well, let's just say that I wouldn't have had to pull over if I had driven to the next exit, because the next exit was in Wyoming.
Wyoming?
Well, now I can say that I've legitimately been to Wyoming. So I got gas and then got back on the highway going the other way. And by the time I got to Hardin, it was 11 pm at night and I was tired and didn't want to drive anymore. So the Super 8 it was.
Woke up this morning and headed back to Miles City. And spent the day vegging and recovering from flying and traveling. Went to 4B's for dinner and went running around 6 pm.
Sept 13: To the hospital around and back
Distance: ~ 1 mile
Time: 9:20
Feeling: eh. Today I just had to get through it.
Tomorrow starts another day, another week. Tomorrow's the "Open House" for me at the hospital ~ the get-to-know the new ob/gyn. Thursday we take more pictures (and I do my first major). And sometime this week, I gotta figure out my list.

Getting Cooler Out
I'm still adjusting to the fact that there's no humidity in Montana. So this morning, when it was in the low 70s and I went to run, it feels more like East Coast 60s.
Sept 7: To the hospital, around the front lawn and back
Time: 10:37
Distance: 1+ mile
Feeling: Ok. Tried to run on the grassy area to protect my shins.
I still need to up my milage. I've been needing to do that for months now. But it's into the home stretch of this daily running thing...250 days down, only a little more than 100 to go!

A Different Route
Today, I decided to go the other way ~ instead of running to the hospital, I ran up the hill in the other direction. The benefits were that I could run on the road which is more comfortable than sidewalks and that it was something new. The downside was that it was uphill.
Sept 6: To the Range Riders sign and back
Distance: 1+ miles
Time: 12:12 ( 6:13 there, 5:59 back)
Weather: 82 degrees, fair and sunny, feels like 81
Feeling: Felt good going in a different direction. But doesn't change the fact that I hate hills.
Between today and tomorrow, I've got to get lots of things done for the office ~ handouts and information sheets and things like that. And I do hope to get called in at some point. But if not, I'm enjoying the change of pace. Set up my online bills today and am slowly getting settled here. Fun fun fun!

Still Need New Shoes...
Sept 4: Just past Taco John's and back
Distance: 1 mile
Time: 8:22
Feeling: Had a great night at the football game and then ran after.
Sept 5: Over around the Hospital and back
Distance: 1+ miles
Time: 11:54
Feeling: Okay, took it at a little slower pace after a lazy day hanging out in the hotel.

Damn Shin Splints
I really need new shoes.
Sept 2: Around Holy Rosary Campus
Distance: ~1 mile
Time: 9:58
Feeling: My shins hurt, hurt, hurt. Tried to stick to the grass as much as possible.
Sept 3: Taco John's and Back
Distance: 1 mile
Time: 8:00 (20 seconds faster than the other day)
Feeling: Better ~ I should remember to take my inhaler first. Shins still hurt a little.
I'm going to try to get new shoes tomorrow. And then, after work, I'm going to head to the Football game, once I figure out where they play...

Montana Life
I can't really believe that I'm here....
Went to the hospital briefly, had another mini-tour, got my itnerary for tomorrow, and resigned the Medicaid application for at least the fourth time. Then I hit up Wal-Mart for living stuff, Pizza Hut for dinner, and now I just finished my run.
Aug 31: Hotel to hospital, around there a bit, and back.
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 9:09
Feeling: Lungs are tight. I might as well make myself an appointment for PFTs.
Let's see how tomorrow goes...here goes nothing!

My NEW Laptop!
Okay, so I haven't managed to get new running shoes yet, but I did get the new laptop!
I've got lots of updating to do. I drove to Virginia and back, to RI and back, and am now sitting at the Bradley Airport in Hartford waiting to fly to Montana!
Aug 25: Virginia Run - Econo Lodge, down the road a half mile and back
Distance: 1 mile
Time: around 9 minutes
Feeling: Tight lungs...Jessica was dog sitting in DC and my asthma was really acting up and my inhaler wasn't helping too much, so this was a very easy run.
Aug 26: Maryland Run - around the rest stop on the highway back to CT
Distance: ~ 1 mile
Time: around 10 minutes
Feeling: Funny ~ can't believe I'm running at a rest stop!
Aug 27: RI Run - all around the old roads that I grew up on!
Distance: ~1.5 miles
Time: 14:34
Weather: Beautiful!
Feeling: Like a little kid again. And the weather was beautiful!
Aug 28: RI Run - to the State Beach and back.
Distance: 1.2 miles
Time: 9:45
Weather: Misty rain.
Feeling: Quick!
Aug 29: Meriden Run - Elm to Harrison to Gale to Broad to Olive and home
Distance: 1.2 miles
Time: ~10 minutes
Aug 30: Meriden Run - Elm to E. Main to Broad to Olive, down and back on New St.
Distance: 1.2 miles
Time: 10:44
And now, I'm waiting at the airport. Would love to say that this is the last flight for a while, but not so much. I fly to Oklahoma next weekend and back for Kev & Jen's wedding in October. THEN I won't fly for a while!

Another Day
note to my readers...this post contains the text document that I kept for the last few weeks when I wasn't able to connect to the internet with my laptop. It's a long one!
...another dollar. I still don't get how I'm getting paid so much money and really not seeing that many patients. 10-12 patients a day. $600 a day. Really?
So I'm adjusting to not working that many hours. Which I'm definitely not complaining about. And I'm not yet doing anything extra. Trying to save money, trying to live within my means. That is, until I get this paycheck and then WOOHOO! I've got some money! But about the running.
Aug 4: Left out of Econo Lodge, down 37, right onto a road, up the hill, ran until a dog started chasing me, and then turned around and went back
Distance: 1 mile (though I haven't mapmyrun'd it yet)
Time: 8:10
Feeling: Not too bad.
After, I played with my kettlebell for a while. Did some snatches, cleans, presses and a set of Turkish get-ups. Debating about trying to run in the morning. Tomorrow, I think I'm going to bring clothes with me and find somewhere different to run after work.
~~~~~~
Two more down!
Aug 5: Right out Econo Lodge, one pole past where I've stopped before
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 8:57
Aug 6: Right out Econo Lodge, first pole, 2 laps of Econo
Distance: 1 mile
Time: No watch
Feeling: Full ~ had a really big dinner!
~~~~~~
I'm going crazy
'cause I can't post any of this on blogspot! I've been keeping it as a notepad document for the last almost 2 weeks because my computer only occasionally can connect to the internet. Pain in my ass. I'm still running though.
Aug 7: Second pole run
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 10:03 (probably shorter, I just forgot to stop my watch)
Aug 8: Second pole run
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 9:45
I really need to get a new laptop. That's on my list of things I want when I get my first big paycheck on the 25th. Along with my new running shoes. Can't wait!
Also, I've decided to drive to my UVA interview. I've got the time at that point in the month, since I'm homeless anyhow, and overall, I think it's cheaper than flying, and really, will take about the same amount of time. The drive is supposed to be 8 hours, the flight is 5 with a stopover, plus traveling to the airport, parking, etc. I think driving will be worth it.
Now I remembered what I was supposed to work on today ~ my UTSW presentation! But let me go run first.
Aug 9: Down to the Speed Limit sign, past the second pole
Distance: 1+ miles (I really need to drive it to get a distance)
Time: 11:06
Weather: Cloudy, humid, 73 degrees
Feeling: Pretty good. Could probably go further. Will try to test it out a little bit at a time. The humidity sucked. And it was different running mid-day, not at dusk like I have been.
~~~~~~
Keep on Going
Aug 10: To the Speed Limit Sign
Distance: 1.25 miles
Aug 11: To the green sign past the Speed Limit
Distance: 1.4 miles
Time: 11:50
Aug 12: To the second pole
Disntace: 1+ miles
Going nuts that I haven't posted any of this...but happy I'm still running. As of Aug 21, I have 141 days to go, and have run for 221 days straight.
Wow.
~~~~~~~
Aug 13: To the first pole, 1 lap around the Econo Lodge
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Not good...dinner did not agree with me!
Aug 14: Running at the Locks - from the Visitors Center back to the Entrance
Distance: ~ 1.2 miles
Time: 10:13
Feeling: Great ~ and watching the boat after was pretty cool too!
~~~~~~
Aug 15: To the yellow sign and back
Distance: 1.6 miles (or more)
Time: No watch
Feeling: Pretty good ~ I was at a good pace and felt comfortable, even with the extra distance. I know I've got to start upping my distance. The three of us (Dana, Heather and I) are all still in. Which I have to say, is still pretty damn impressive.
Tomorrow I head to Ithaca. Going to catch up with Tricia, Coach Nichols and Jack. Plus, take a lot of pictures. Should be a fun day!
~~~~~~
Another Week Down
Wow, so much has happened...I went to Ithaca, finished at Massena, and am now in Texas. Here's the running stats.
Aug 16: To the first pole and one lap around Econo Lodge
Distance: 1 mile
Time: Early morning...
Aug 17: Second pole and back
Distance: 1+ mile
Aug 18: Second pole and back
Distance: 1+ mile
Aug 19: First pole and 1 lap
Distance: 1 mile
Time: Early morning
Then I drove to Albany after my last day at Massena to catch my plane to Dallas yesterday morning.
Aug 20: 3 laps of Crowne Plaza
Distance: ~1 mile
Time: 9:13
Feeling: Tried to run late, in the hopes that the weather would get less humid. Notsomuch.
Aug 21: Running the area around the Crowne Plaza
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 10:21
Feeling: Pretty good. The thunderstorms this morning helped with the humidity.
Tomorrow, it's back to CT. Sunday, it's football in the city. Monday, I'm off to Virginia. Or maybe Tuesday...still have to finalize this trip's plans. On that note, I should probably email Chris to see if I can stay with him on Monday night. Then I need to make plans for Tuesday night, with plans to drive back on Wednesday. Then it's RI!
~~~~~~
Run More!
Aug 22: Up Elm St, Right by Ceppa, Right onto Oak, ran the cul-de-sac at Gallopie and back onto Oak, Right onto Silver and home.
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Hungry! Went to dinner with the 'rents after. And happy to be off a plane
Aug 23: East River Run after football. From 83rd up to about 93rd and back.
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 10:15
Feeling: Tired! But glad to have had one last hurrah with the football team!
Aug 24: Meriden run again
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Hot! Ran midday, and the only way to use my laptop is to connect it upstairs at my parents, which is not air conditioned.
Now I'm off to DC for the night, then Virginia in the morning, which comes with my first attending paycheck ~ $6K! Which is good, 'cause after I take out the $60 in my account, I'm going to be down to about $10 to my name...
It's been a while...
...since I posted on here. Not since I last ran. :)
7 months of daily running down. 5 months to go.
Last week was a CRAZY busy week. Monday I started packing the moving van, Tuesday I finished packing the moving van and moved, Wednesday I interviewed at Einstein, Thursday I flew to California, Friday I interviewed at Davis, Saturday I flew back to NYC, Sunday I drove to Massena and today, I started working.
July 28: Meriden run
Route: Up Elm St, Right by Ceppa, Right onto Oak, ran the cul-de-sac at Gallopie and back onto Oak, Right onto Silver and home.
Distance: 1 mile
July 29: Meriden run
Route: Same as above
July 30: Sacramento run
Route: Through the mall, back and forth, and around the Holiday Inn
Time: 9:20
July 31: San Fran run
Route: Right on Scott St, Right on Fell, down to Masonic, turn around and come back
Distance: 1.2 miles
Time: 10:27
Aug 1: San Fran run
Route: Same as above
Distance: 1.2 miles
Time: 10:22
Aug 2: Massena run
Route: Out of Econo Lodge, up to telephone pole by 37B, back with a lap around Econo Lodge
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 8:58
Aug 3: Massena run
Route: Same as above, without as many laps around Econo Lodge
Distance: 1 mile
Time: 7:42
So I've managed to keep up the running as I've been across the country and back. I'm still glad that running a mile doesn't take me that long anymore. Now I've really gotta start upping the distance...
BRICK!
Okay, so today I was a little stupid.
The short story on the shower was that it went well, Jen was surprised, and it cost less than half of what it was going to. But then I found out that my first paycheck isn't til August 25, so I have to take a loan from my parents to float me til then. Ugh. In the last 12 years, I haven't asked them for money, even when things got really bad. But there's no way I can do it without their help right now. And that's a blow to my pride.
But back to how I was stupid today. I took the 6 am ferry home this morning, which put me in Port Jeff at 7:15. However, I was car-less in Port Jeff at 7:15. Loren was going to come pick me up at 9 ~ I didn't want her to get up any earlier than that, it was already wonderful that she was coming to pick me up. So I went to Starbucks and read the paper. That was great ~ nice and relaxing way to start the day.
Then the truck wasn't ready (ok, I was an hour early, but the truck wasn't ready one hour early?) so Loren and I drove around, dropped some stuff off at Goodwill, and went back to pick up the truck at 10. After paperwork and stuff, I was home by 11. And then I can't find my lock. God damn it. Alright, so I'm going to have to go to Home Depot. But I'm working out with Tristan at 2 and I already have to bike there, so I killed some time until 12:30 and then started off to Bally's. Things I learned on that ride ~ 1. The drivers on 25 are not happy about sharing the road with a cyclist. 2. Sidewalks are fun to ride on as a kid, but much less fun when you're an adult (on a road bike nonetheless). 3. Riding home after working out is also not so much fun.
Did my last set of kettlebells with Tristan today. He got some new ones ~ one 25 lb one and two more 20 lb ones. And what I learned from that was that THAT WAS STUPID.
And by that, I mean, who the hell lifts heavier weights BEFORE loading a moving van? Or goes on a 10 mile bike ride? Me, I guess.
I've loaded the van to the point that there's only a few things left in the apartment ~ most of it are things I can't carry by myself. Tristan said he'd help me with that tomorrow. Thank god.
So when that was all done, I had to still run a mile. Jezus Christmas.
July 27: W of the apartment complex
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: totally, utterly spent
So tomorrow I still have to do a bunch of shit. So I'm going to shower now, go to bed, and get up at 5 or 6 am tomorrow to finish this off. Oh, and I have to clean still too. God damn it.
The short story on the shower was that it went well, Jen was surprised, and it cost less than half of what it was going to. But then I found out that my first paycheck isn't til August 25, so I have to take a loan from my parents to float me til then. Ugh. I've loaded the van to the point that there's only a few things left in the apartment ~ most of it are things I can't carry by myself. Tristan said he'd help me with that tomorrow. Thank god.
So when that was all done, I had to still run a mile. Jezus Christmas.
July 27: W of the apartment complex
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: totally, utterly spent
So tomorrow I still have to do a bunch of shit. So I'm going to shower now, go to bed, and get up at 5 or 6 am tomorrow to finish this off. Oh, and I have to clean still too. God damn it.
Too early...
Ugh. Why am I up at 6 am? Oh yeah, that's right, because I went to Loren's block party and didn't go to bed til 1 am and now am getting ready to take the 8 o'clock ferry to CT. Since the day will be crazy and i have no idea what it's going to bring, I decided to run this morning. My plan was 5:45 alarm clock, run and be home before six, shower by 6:30, straighten my hair, head out by 7:15 to be in line for the ferry around 7:30.
That would be, if I set my alarm clock. And turned it on.
My TV woke me up at 5:30, but I rolled over and waited for the alarm clock, in and out of sleep. Then it occured to me that I hadn't heard the alarm. 5:55 on the clock. Damnit. Cause the problem is always that I don't want to get in the shower still sweating ~ that defeats the purpose of showering. Oh well. Went out the door after getting dressed and was greeted by the rain. Damnit.
July 26: Galaxie run
Distance: 1.1 miles
Weather: 73, raining, muggy
Songs: Let it Rock, Who Let the Dogs Out, Follow Me
Feeling: Pretty good. The music was good, the weather crappy.
And now it's almost 6:30, and I'm almost done sweating, so I'll be showering shortly. Am going to work very hard not to yell at my mother today. It'll be nice to see my cousins. And I can't wait to see Jen's face.
Running out of time
My time on Long Island is coming to an end. I'm finally just about done packing (woohoo!) and getting ready to do my run of good-byes. I've got a busy few days ahead of me:
Tonight: Block party at Loren's
Tomorrow: Bridal shower for Jen
Check the self storage places
Monday: Pack the moving van
Last workout with Tristan
Start on those good-byes
Tuesday: Finish those good-byes
Bring van back to Meriden
Unload van
Wednesday: Interview at Einstein
Thursday: Leave for California
Friday: Interview at UC Davis
Saturday: Hang out with Drew
Sunday: Drive to Massena
What a week! Can't wait to keep up my running. Here's today's route:
July 25: Mooney Pond to Evergreen to Sunset
Distance: 1.25 miles
Time: no watch
Songs: Stronger than Yesterday, Lose Yourself, Attitude Dance
Weather: 77 degrees, sunny
Feeling: Felt okay. Was really nice to do something other than pack!
I don't want to go...now that it's time, I don't want to go.
Last Visit to the 'Brook
Today, I went to Stony Brook to get some more boxes from the basement. I'll tell you, what a great place for boxes ~ all shapes and sizes, and no one even blinks an eye when you're taking them out. So I went to visit Swoboda and saw Liz while I was there, and picked up lots of boxes.
I did a pretty good job packing today. I did most of the kitchen (minus the fridge and food cabinet) and most of the bathroom (not that there's not a bunch of things on the floor of the bathroom that need to be packed). I finished filing all my articles in the file cabinets and emptied the linen closet. Haven't reserved a truck or space yet though. Not going to happen tomorrow, that's for sure. Probably Monday or Tuesday. That way, I can drag Tristan for an hour or two to help me load the truck.
Tonight I'm going to go over Vanessa's for beer and wine. So I had to run first.
July 24: Sunset Run
Distance: 1 mile
Time: no watch
Weather: 75 degrees, beautiful out!
Feeling: sore from yesterday's workout with Tristan. Run was okay ~ less aches in my legs, more in my arms.
Ahhh...it's almost over. I've got alot to do still, but seeing people and spending time with them is on that list too. Time to shower and head to Vanessa's!
Good News!
So I didn't actually hear from Jeff about my job in upstate, but I did hear from someone in the office. And I got the best deal I could hope for! I still start on August 3rd, I get the 10th off for my interview in Texas, and now I end on the 19th. So I can fly to my interview in Texas again on the 20th for the 21st from NYC or Hartford (which will definitely be cheaper and easier than Syracuse), I can still play in the football tournament in NYC on the 23rd, I can go to my Virginia interview on the 26th from again a cheaper airport, and I have some days off! And in those 12 days I'm working, that's $7200. Yeah, I'll be fine. I may even treat my mom to a few days in RI ~ actually, that sounds really good. I'm going to have to look into it.
Yesterday, I played pool with Chris Page as my "going away" dinner. Tonight I'm going to watch Tristan's hockey game, and tomorrow I'm hanging out with Eva Swoboda and probably Vanessa too. :) Oh, packing? Yeah, haven't really done that. That's tomorrow ~ all day.
Oh, and I also had the dentist today. My teeth look AWESOME. Happy happy happy.
And this is supposed to be about running.
July 22: Galaxie run before pool with Chris
Distance: 1.1 miles
Feeling: I think when you run the same routes over and over again, you don't think much about the route and instead focus on "oh, my shins hurt, oh my feet hurt, etc"
July 23: Sunset run
Distance: 1 mile
Weather: pouring rain
Feeling: There's something liberating about running in the rain. Great smile on my face at the end of the run. But I'm wet.
Ok, time to shower, time to go watch Tristan play in the playoffs.
Ohio to Michigan
On the road again...just can't wait to be on the road again...
Yeah, right. I guess there's fun things about traveling ~ I like staying in nice hotels (even average hotels are fun). I like exploring new cities and seeing what they have to offer. I love running in new places ~ you run farther without thinking about it.
So what have I run for the last four days?
July 18: From Anita's house to the elementary school and back, with two side jaunts down cul-de-sacs to let my running partner catch his breath.
Running Partner: Spencer (age 10)
Distance: 1.2 miles
Time: 13:05
Feeling: It was fun trying to get Spencer to run with me. He really really wanted to come, so I had him run with me. He started too fast, so I had to run down the cul-de-sacs to give him a chance to breathe. But he did run the complete mile to the school and back, even if he stopped a little.
But that didn't prepare me for the next day.
July 19: To the elementary school and back (no cul-de-sacs)
Running Partner: Spencer
Time of Day: 10 pm
Time: 12:21
Feeling: So this time, Spencer had to keep up with me because it was just plain dark out. So I slowed down my pace until I was comfortable talking easily and had him run at that pace. We did do a negative split (6:15 down, 6:06 back). And he even beat me on the kick back to his house (I sorta let him...but that's okay)
And now, I'm in Detroit.
July 20: From the Holiday Inn, Washington Blvd to Grand Circus Park, back down Woodward Ave and that's where things got tricky. I knew I had to turn at Michigan Ave, but I somehow ran all the way down to Larned, did some round about thing at Fort St until I found Washington Blvd again and made it back to the hotel. So instead of my mile, I probably ran 2.
Distance: ~ 2 miles
Time: 13:05
Feeling: Pretty good, had to laugh about the fact I got lost.
Tomorrow I'll run before my interview, and then hopefully get a stand-by seat on an earlier plane so I get in to NY before 11 pm. Otherwise, I'll be hanging at the airport for a while after the interview. Tonight's another pre-interview dinner, and I should probably get ready.
* * * *
And the update from July 21st...today was the Wayne State interview and I'll admit, there were some things I really liked about the program. There were also some concerns. Pluses and minuses, and it'll all add up on my rank list in the end. So I ran before interview this morning...
July 21: Down Washington to the Park, Down Woodward, Across State, Down to Lafayette and back.
Distance: 1 mile
Time: 6:59 (so I really think I can run under a 7 minute mile...I may have to go to the track and time myself soon)
Feeling: Sorta crunch time ~ trying to get all this in and straighten my hair before the interview. But the run felt good.
So that's been the last four days. Now I'm back on Long Island until this weekend, when I will hopefully have packed everything by Saturday and can move it to storage in CT. Next week are my Einstein and UC Davis interviews. And then, I either go to upstate NY or to Montana. Haven't heard a peep from Jeff about any of this, so I'll have to call him tomorrow.
Flying Again
So tomorrow, I'm off to Detroit, where Kristin will pick me up and we'll head to Toledo to see Anita, Sarah, Spencer and Anita's pregnant belly. :)
I've got my prescription for Zofran, courtesy of Nikole. I've packed my computer bag, except for my computer. I picked up my dry cleaned suit, but I haven't packed that bag yet. Gotta cram everything into my small suitcase because Northwest makes you pay for bags, including your first bag. Which means I have to lug my stuff through the airport. Luckily, it's less than a 2 hour flight.
So tonight, I debated a few things. Run right before midnight, cross midnight, and run tomorrow's mile. Or run at dusk tonight and run tomorrow in Ohio or Michigan. Or wait for the thunderstorms that are supposed to come and run in the rain. I decided to run at dusk, and let Kristin know to pack running shoes so she'll come run the mile with me tomorrow.
July 17: Galaxie run
Weather: 73, cloudy, humid, rain is threatening but never materialized
Distance: 1.1 miles
Songs: Let's Rock, It's All Been Done, Don't Stop the Music
Feeling: Ok. Some sore twinges here and there, and my hamstrings are still sore from Tristan's workout the other day, but overall okay.
Next stop, Detroit. Then NYC for Einstein, then Cali for UC Davis, then hopefully off to my job...
Ow Ow Ow...
Yesterday was a gym day with Tristan - did a really heavy kettlebell workout and knew I was going to be sore. I ran at twilight because yesterday was hot.
July 15: Sunset Run, easy
Distance: 1+ mile
Time: 9:15
Feeling: Ok. Shins were a little sore.
Woke up this morning and ow ow ow. My neck, my back and a little of my arms. Ow.
July 16: Galaxie Run, even easier
Weather: 73, sunny, feels like 73 (I thought it felt warmer)
Distance: 1.1 miles
Feeling: Sore. Makes me stay with better posture, since better posture makes it hurt less.
Today, I have to get back to packing the apartment. I think I'm going to shower and head to Starbucks to write some thank you notes and then head home for more packing. Going to attack the bedroom today.
Baby Steps in Cleveland
So on Sunday I flew to Cleveland for my Clinic interview on Monday. So I ran there. And the same on Monday and this morning, too.
July 12: Out of hotel at 100th, down Carneige to 89th, right on 89th, right onto Euclid, down to 100th, right on 100th and back to the hotel.
Distance: 1 mile
July 13: Same
Timed: 8:02
July 14: Same
So I was reading Runners World on the plane, and they made a comment about how when you get tired running, you tend to lengthen your stride when you should actually aim to shorten it for a faster turnover. So I tried that a litte in my second half of the mile. Seems like it might work. And the baby steps were also what I needed interviewing in Cleveland. Big interview, big time people. Gotta start working on those thank you cards...
Running WITH Tristan
So, usually when we work out, Tristan just watches me. Today, we ran together. Course, he forgot to tell me that weren't working out at Bally's and instead at a local high school about 25 minutes from Bally's. Whoops.
So I missed the beginning of the workout, but it was time to run when I got there. So we ran one loop of the nature trail (about 1 mile) and then down to the track, bleacher steps, and a lap of the track. We did that twice.
First around: 8:38 nature trail
Bleachers/Track: 3:24
The second time, Tristan and I decided to race, shooting for under 7.
Second around: 6:39 nature trail
Bleachers/Track: 3:30
A little more running for Beth and Katie to catch up: 4:07
Total time: 26:29
Total distance: 2 3/4 mile (or more)
So maybe I ran a sub-7 minute mile. Though Tristan wasn't sure the true distance....I did see a 3/4 mile marker and it was 4:50 at that point, so I could have absolutely run a sub-7 minute mile. Huh. I broke 7 minutes. Wow. :)
Stupid Laptop
Last few days...
July 8: Sunset run backwards
July 9: Galaxie run
July 10: Sunset run
All distances: 1-1.2 miles
So my laptop is on the fritz. Well, actually not the laptop, seems just the power cord. I ordered another one yesterday on Ebay but it probably won't be here until next week. So this morning, when I woke up to print my Southwest tickets, the cord decided to charge my laptop again, so I'm afraid to move it from my lap. Hence why I'm updating my blog before I've even run today. I'm gymin' it with Tristan at 2 pm, and he told me we'd run at least a mile today so not to run before the gym. And it's supposed to be nice in the daytime, thunderstorms at night, so I'm game for running then.
Yesterday was my Downstate interview ~ I think it went well. They seem to think I will be getting a fellowship and really seemed to spend more time trying to convince me to come to Downstate. We'll see what Cleveland Clinic has to offer on Monday.
Love the Gym with Tristan
I really am going to miss Tristan. I've been working out with him for a year and a half, and he's become a close friend. Today, we played with kettlebells outside Bally's again. One day coming up, we're going to have to sit down and devise a workout schedule ~ as well as write down all the kettlebell drills, 'cause god knows I'm going to forget them.
Anyhow, this is supposed to be about running...
July 6: Sunset Run
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Sore hamstrings still
July 7: Galaxie Run
Distance: 1.1 miles
Feeling: Nice and easy, a few hours after kettlebells
So I started packing up my apartment today. Gotta get some boxes from Stony Brook, probably tomorrow when I stop by Terry's to pick up my graduation pictures. And my first interview is Friday, so I have to start doing some Downstate research. Oh, and finish my reservations for Cleveland Clinic...yeah. Lots to do.
Fireflies
July 4: Ran at Bally's outside
Distance: 1.1 miles
Time: 8:14
Feeling: Good warmup to a workout with Tristan. Then an even better beach day with Loren after.
July 5: Galaxie Run
Distance: 1.1 miles
Time: 4:21 to Galaxie, 4:05 around Galaxie, 1:03 to home. Then a 5 minute walk around cool down.
Total run: 9:29
Feeling: Sore hamstrings today. So I decided to "run slower" ~ that was, until Let's Get It Started came on the ipod. Ok, I'll admit, I searched for it, but that definitely picked up my pace down to Galaxie.
When I came home, during my cool down walk, I saw the fireflies again. I've seen them the last few nights since I've been home from Montana. They always bring back memories of being a kid and trying to catch them in the backyard with my brother and Harmony and Charity from down the street. All in all, looking back, it was a pretty good childhood. The fireflies will always make me smile. I wonder if we'll have them in Montana.
180 days to go...
July 2: Hotel to Holy Rosary, around the 1.3 Walk of Wellness, and back
Distance: 2.3 miles
Time: 17:30
Feeling: Good! Gotta up these miles.
July 3: Galaxie Run
Distance: 1.1 miles
Time: no watch
Feeling: Just had to get it done today.
So I love the Miles City people ~ I can't wait to go back there for my extended stay. I only wish I didn't have to do the August upstate NY gig. I'm going to talk to Jeff on Monday to see if I can get out of it. My Montana license came through today, which means it's just a matter of credentials and then I can start. I'd really love to start right away.
Distance: 2.3 miles
Time: 17:30
Feeling: Good! Gotta up these miles.
July 3: Galaxie Run
Distance: 1.1 miles
Time: no watch
Feeling: Just had to get it done today.
Mornings in Montana
Hmmm....running in the morning is much better.
July 1: To the furniture store and back.
Distance: 1 mile
Time: This time, I forgot to set my watch on the way there. It was 3:33 on the way back. So probably ~ 7:30
Weather: 65 degrees, partly cloudy
Feeling: Much better, temperature wise.
As I was running, I was thinking that the nickname for Montana was "Big Sky" and I can totally understand why. The sky seems huge and is very beautiful. And hilly out the outside of town, but fairly flat in the town itself ~ which I love for running. I could probably start boosting the miles if I lived here.
Can I really come here to practice though? Don't know. We'll have to see how today goes!
Six Months
Couldn't get on blogspot tonight from the hotel room in Montana, so I typed some notes to post later. It's now later.
June 30.
6 months of running a mile or more every single day.
3 degree weather. 97 degree weather (that was today).
Wow.
June 30: Down to the furniture store and back.
Time: ~8 minutes. I stopped my watch instead of splitting it when I turned around. That was at 3:56, so I should have been under 8. I ran slower because it was HOT.
Distance: 1 mile, mapped by my car
Feeling: The air at least is a dry heat, instead of humid. And I don't know that it's actually 97 out right now ~ that was just one of the temps I saw earlier during my exploration.
So tomorrow I interview at the hospital out here. Seems there's been some turmoil with the ob gyn who was here for 30 years who suddenly stopped practicing. There's currently someone doing locums at the hospital, so I'll have to see what she thinks. The community is small, but cute. There's an actual swimming hole ~ like a mini-lake. It's a small town, but I lived in Ithaca before it was built up, so I can't imagine this to be much different. I guess I'll see tomorrow!
Da Boards.
I'll be really happy when this is over.
June 29: Galaxie Run
Songs: So What, Love Song, Let it Ride
Distance: 1.1 miles
Feeling: I just want the damn test done already.
I'm thinking about upping this to 2 miles a day at least half the week for the second half of the year. But we'll see how that goes.
Time to shower, time to get ready, TIME TO PASS THE BOARDS!
One Day Away...
By tomorrow at this time, I will have finished my written boards.
Which means, I will have officially graduated. After, I'm going to go return everything at Stony Brook and officially "check out" ~ I'll be done with residency. Tuesday morning, I get on a plane to Montana to see the town and the hospital that I'll be working in starting in September. July I have off, and August I'll be working at a clinic in upstate NY, 9-5, regular days, no call.
So my plans for tonight are a nice dinner and then bed early. Hopefully I'll sleep a little better tonight. Did take a nap by the pool earlier.
June 28: Sunset to Mooney Pond and back
Distance: 1.4 miles
Feeling: Good. Okay. Shins are better, but a little throbby at the end.
Tomorrow, I'll probably run before the boards. Then the boards, then the hospital, then dinner with Nikole and Kirthi to celebrate the end of four years.
Almost 6 Months!
June 26: Running in Charlotte. Slightly different route ~ ran down the hill to the right, through some parking lots and back up the hill.
Time 9:36.
Feeling: Very tired.
Distance: 1+ miles.
The board review course wore us all out. Plus, as I mentioned before, it was like being in medical school again with people studying all over the place. Today, I couldn't run before the course today ~ we started at 6:30. Caught our plane back to NY and then sat in traffic; got home at 7. Starving. Ate my regular at Friendly's (I know, I know, I swear I'm going to stop, but we had next to NO protein for the last 5 days and I really wanted chicken). Came home, napped, and ran around the apartment complex.
June 27: Circles around the apartment complex.
Distance: 1 mile.
Songs: Move Along, One Step at a Time, and the very beginning of Just Dance
Time (based on songs): 7:30
Feeling: Pretty good, though I can't wait to go to bed.
Can't wait to sleep in tomorrow. Can't believe the boards are in two days. Can't believe I'm done!
Brain is filling up...
This board review course reminds me more and more of med school every day. I haven't been in a place with people studying non-stop since I lived with Dana, Steph and Jazz.
At least I'm still running.
Same route as Tuesday.
June 24: 10:02
June 25: 9:38
I also threw in a little swimming yesterday. Probably going to hot tub it again tomorrow to help my left leg shin splint. Oh, the fun, the fun.
Here in NC
June 23: Down from the hotel, Left onto the road, down to the river, ran alongside the river til the next building, then to the main road, right onto the road I was on before, up the hill and back.
Time: 10:20
Weather: 68 and sunny
So not too bad. My left leg shin is killing me.
Now it's time to go sit in courses for the day. Ugh.
Off to NC!
Today, Nik and I leave for Charlotte. Kirthi's already in NC and will be traveling from Raleigh to Charlotte this morning. Then it's 5 days of intensive learning/reviewing in preparation for what we'll be doing next week at this time ~ our WRITTEN BOARDS!
I was up really late last night ~ had to attempt to clean (or at least tidy) my apartment before I left. I think things were growing in my kitchen, and it wasn't herbs. More like mold. So I managed to get all the papers in a pile and the dishes in the dishwasher, my laundry put away and I have a short list of errands that I want to accomplish before noon, when Nik and Ant pick me up for our trek to the airport.
So I did my run now.
June 22: Galaxie Run
Weather: 67, cloudy, feels like 67
Songs: Stronger/Faster, Misunderstood, Country Grammer, It's All Been Done
Feeling: My shins hurt from Tristan's workout on Saturday. My butt hurts too, but that's a good hurt. My shins aren't a good hurt, but I started up my shin stretches again.
Oh, and it's time for new shoes. Now that I got a few extra dollars from graduation, I need a new pair of sneakers.
And I'm Done.
With residency, that is.
June 19: ran in the morning (Sunset run) before going into my last day. That's cause I knew it was Conway's at night and I didn't get in until 2 am on the 20th, so if I didn't run, I wouldn't have.
June 20: ran after working out with Tristan outside at Bally's. Then high tailed it home to catch the ferry to go to Fire Island.
June 21: ran the Sunset run again after coming home from Fire Island.
And now, I have to shower and hit Starbucks to work on my stats. Cause if I sit here, I guarantee I won't do them. That being said, I don't really want to do them...
Pre-Toast, Pre-Studying Run
Jun 13: Galaxie-Inwood-Sunset-Church Run
Today I met Donna for breakfast after my run. Was a little late 'cause I didn't manage to drag myself out of bed early enough to really run, cool down, then shower and go. Breakfast was great ~ Kylie is so cute and little, and quite happy for a baby! And seeing Donna before I leave was good too. I'm going to miss these nurses that got my through my gyn months on nights...
Then I studied all day with Nikole. First we started outside by Danford's at the picnic tables, but when it started getting cold and looking like it was going to rain, we decided to move into Starbucks. Studied til 4, then ate at Kimi and shopped at the Gap, came back to study some more. And that's where I sit now. Did 2 practice tests online as well as some prolog questions. Disagree with some of the answers, but overall, I think I'll probably do fine. Plus, we still have the board review course to do.
Tonight, I am NOT going to turn my computer on. I am going to clean my apartment. I swear.
And then there were five...
June 9: Post work, post nap running around the apartment complex.
June 10: Post Harvards running around the apartment complex. Pumpkin beer was back too ~ so I was definitely a little tipsy on my run. The last Harvards of my residency.
June 11: Galaxie Run ~ and it felt great! The day of work was great too, however, Q did a nice job of ruining it at board sign out and after. Tovar was awesome during the day though ~ I did a vacuum and a forceps delivery and they were great! I only wish he was there earlier...
June 12: Galaxie Run again ~ with some pick ups between the poles. The sun was still out, so that was nice.
There's only five work days of residency left. Holy Cow! And I'm up to five interviews for fellowship now. FIVE! Woohoo! Five's a good number!
I'm broke.
Almost forgot to run tonight. Glad I remembered.
June 7: Ran before studying - Mooney Pond to S. Evergreen to Sunset and back. Then went to study with Nikole, ate lunch at Cheesecake Factory, shopped a little (found my RRD dress!) and then studied more.
June 8: As I said, almost forgot to run tonight. Did 1 mile around the apartment complex.
And I'm broke. Checked my bank balance today. $0. Still not really sure what I'm going to do to get money. Aaaggh...
First Week of June
Trying to remember this week ~ they're all starting to blur together as the time is going so quickly. Two week until the end of residency. TWO WEEKS!
June 3: Ran my mile after work, after Implanon training. Apartment complex loops.
June 4: Ran my mile after work around the apartment complex. CRAZY day at work.
June 5: Ran my mile in the rain when I came home from work. Apartment complex loops. And then, drank a blueberry beer.
June 6: Ran my mile (Sunset/Inwood Route) after working out with Tristan flipping tires and banging sledgehammers. And that was after a full day of ACLS/BLS training. Took a nice spill behind the St. Margaret's softball field and scraped my hand and leg. Pretty good leg scrape too.
Tomorrow, I'm going to run before a full day of studying with Nikole. And at some point, I'm going to have to get a dress for RRD and an outfit for our formal residency pictures.
Really? It's almost over? I just can't believe it.
Today's Run
Another beautiful day...and after all the sleeping, I felt much better. As did my shins, which I thought were going to explode yesterday.
May 31: College Rd to Mooney Pond to S. Evergreen to Sunset, around the church. Then I stopped to watch the softball game for a little bit and then came home.
5 months down, 7 to go.
15 work days of residency left. 3 clinic, 11 L&D, 1 RRD.
If only I had a job...
The Week Before
Tues May 26: Ferndale run after the gym with Tristan.
Wed May 27: Apartment complex - after dinner at Paces when I was very very full and drunk.
Thurs May 28: Apartment complex running.
Fri May 29: Ferndale run, really early in the morning. Then overnight call-trip to CT-and back.
Sat May 30: Apartment complex loop and Church parking lot loop after being up 40 hours.
And now it's Sunday and I just woke up. It's overcast but looks somewhat sunny. I'll go out in a bit.
Memorial Day Weekend
Wed May 20: Ran after journal club while I was drunk. Around the apartment complex.
Thurs May 21: Ran in the morning...and was a little hung over from journal club. Galaxie run.
Fri May 22: Ran at night because I couldn't wake up in the morning. Around the apartment complex.
Sat May 23: Ran in the morning because I was on call for 24 hours. Ferndale Run.
Sun May 24: Ran at night because I slept all day. Around the apartment complex.
Mon May 25: Ran during the day because I had it off. :) Ferndale run.
Basically, I'm still running every day. Found a new route that's a mile - start down Galaxie, but turn onto Ferndale, then up Sunset behind the church back to home. Depending on how I run around the church, it's either exactly a mile or up to 1.2 miles. In the dark, I still run in circles around the apartment. But I like my daytime jaunts. I really should start running farther than a mile, but there's just some days where it's all I can do to even get out there.
I can't believe it's already Memorial Day Weekend ~ or that it's almost over! Three weeks and 4 days and I'll be done with residency. I guess it's time for me to really start studying for the boards.
139 days down...
226 to go!
May 18: W of apartment complex
May 19: Loop of apartment, L of church
Dana and I discussed today how there's some days/nights we "just don't want to run."
I'm just glad that once I start, I'm good.
That's more than a 1/3 of the way there!
It's the Weekend!
So yesterday, I didn't get out of bed until noon. And I really didn't do anything until 3, at which point I got food. And then gym'ed it with Tristan. When I came home, I ran.
May 16: College to Galaxie to Ferndale to Evergreen to Sunset, behind the church and back to College Rd then the apartment
Distance: 1.1 miles
Today, I'm going to the movies with Loren. After, I'm thinking of starting my studying. So I decided to run before the movies.
May 17: College to Galaxie with some fartleks
Run: Ran down College Rd and when I got onto Galaxie, I did sprints between the telephone poles until I got back to College and then finished at a medium pace
Weather: 50 degrees, very very light drizzle
So yesterday during my workout with Tristan (my first in two weeks) I realized that other than running, I'm not doing much secondary stuff on my own, including, but not limited to, abs, upper body, strength workouts. I've got some work to do. We're going to have to make up workouts for me, since I've only got another month and a half here on LI.
Nap then Run
So every night this week was a nap and then a run...and some drinking pre-run.
May 13: Harvards then W around apartment complex (nice out)
May 14: Chilis with Nikole and Kirthi to celebrate my first onc interview and then W around apartment complex (raining)
May 15: 1 1/2 loops of apartment complex (nice out)
I have a horrible pounding headache. Was supposed to go to the Hootenanny, but feel like crap. I think I'm going back to bed.
Always More Awake
After my run.
So yesterday, I ran before work. Today, I ran after work. Both days, I did the Galaxie run.
Don't have too much to say tonight. Gonna watch the Biggest Loser and see who wins.
...and the Tree Pollen is High Today
You'd think that I forgot after just being away for a week. The wonders of the tropical island was that I was breathing fine on all my runs. Despite the fact that they were uphill and I might have been "out of breath," I wasn't wheezing. But today, well, that's a different story. I woke up this morning to the news saying that the tree pollen was high, and I vaguely remembered having a hard time breathing on my runs right prior to vacation, but it seemed to not sink in.
May 10: Right out of apartment complex to College Rd, behind the church, down Sunset, left onto S. Evergreen up to Elmwood, left onto Elmwood and up to Galaxie, left onto Galaxie and back along the regular route to home.
Distance: 1.5 miles
Time: no clock
Weather: 68 degrees, sunny and windy, feels like 68
Feeling: Need my inhaler before running.
So in thinking about running this week, I'm going to try to start running BEFORE work. Tomorrow I have to, because it's jeopardy night, and I'll be drinking.
Go Seawolves!
Last Runs on the Island
Ran the same run I described in my last post. Ran yesterday at 4 before going out for dinner and drinks with Scott and Leigh, and then ran this morning before I start my packing and checking out. :(
May 8: 11:18
May 9: 11:22
6 weeks of residency to go. Time to get back to the daily grind.
Ah, but first, I'm going to enjoy one last beach day. :)
Running in St. Maarten
Well, I've been here now for 6 days and don't want to leave. Well, part of me does ~ I'm ready to get the last 6 weeks of residency over ~ but I am enjoying doing nothing. But nothing can only go on so long.
So first, I'm going to talk about the run I've been doing in St. Maarten. Then I'll talk about who I ran into last night...
It's the same run every day, and here are the times:
May 4: 12:04 (that was right after the rain/in the rain and includes a slip down the hill)
May 5: 10:57 (and that was wet after the rain)
May 6: 11:18 (normal weather)
May 7: 10:42 (cooler than it's been, so it was really nice)
So here's the route:
Out of my timeshare, to the left, past 8 apartments, and up the stairs, up the stairs, up the stairs. Then up behind B building and around the parking lot. Then back down the hill, past the B pool, and into the next parking lot - out and back. Then down-down-down the hill, past the Red Piano to the Marina building and around the corner and up...but not far. Down the stairs by the Marina building and around the corner, down more stairs, and across the Aqua Marina deck. Over to the Marina Residencies and down and back around the pool. It's probably the most flat part of the whole area. So back across the Aqua Marina deck, then across the sand next to Choi, formerly los Gauchos, and I'm sure to be a different restaurant next year. Across the SAND. Then up the stairs by the Marina pool, down the ramp, through the parking lot, and now starts the uphill part. Up the hill on the Red Piano side, then across that parking lot, then up the hill on the Peli Deli side, then across the shortcut by Hollywood Casino, and then up-up-up the hill, er mountain, back to my timeshare. I'm sure I'm running over a mile, given my time (I'm usually at 7:30 minutes running around the Marina Residencies and 9 minutes by the time I get to the pool's parking lot, and since the beginning is more downhill than up, maybe I don't HAVE to run up the hill. But I'm getting faster, and I'm having fun.
So now, who did I SEE in St. Maarten? Scott and Leigh, at the bar last night. SERIOUSLY? I haven't seen them...probably since right after their wedding. So I'm sitting, reading my book, and I guess Leigh walked all around me to see if it was really me (they looked for my tattoo) and then, at some point, I looked up and saw them. And it took a while to register that it really was them...I mean, in St. Maarten? Of all places? So we had some drinks and some dessert and talked. It was nice. Made me miss Drew. He's the fourth of the foursome. And the love of my life...too bad our timing was always off.
So I've got two more runs in St. Maarten. Two more days on the beach (under the umbrella...I'm sufficiently sunburnt). Two more days in paradise. Until next year. :)
Happy May
So, May is here. Four months down of running a mile every day. Not too shabby.
May means one thing to me - St. Maarten! I bought my timeshare as an intern, and it's my third time here this year. Course, this year, I happen to be utterly broke, so it's going to be a budget St. Maarten trip, but that's okay with me. It's really about me, the beach, and a good book.
May 1: Ran at Bally's before my workout with Tristan. 7:50 mile, a little slow.
May 2: Galaxie Run before getting on my plane to St. Maarten.
May 3: 11:10 run around the Pelican complex.
So I've run into a little problem here. First, St. Maarten, and especially Pelican Resort, is VERY HILLY. Second, nothing is measured in miles here, it's all km (not that that is really a problem - 1600 meters, duh). Third, did I mention hilly?
So I decided that I know I run under a 10 minute mile. If I run downhill, I'll be running up hill as well at some point, so as long as I run more than 10 minutes, I should be fine. Plus, there's an area in front of the Marina that's flat - and I'll be incorporating that into my daily runs. The run today took me up to the top of the complex, around some parking lots (those are usually flat), down to the base, up the hill to the Marina, around the Marina, across the beach, and back UP the hill to my place. It reminded me of running Central Park in NYC.
Of course, there's an added benefit of running here - I jumped in the pool after my run. And I'm sure running into the ocean will happen with at least one of my runs. :)
Done With Onc
It's been a busy week.
April 27: Galaxie run after onc clinic.
April 28: W of apartment complex before the OR - 5 majors.
April 29: W of apartment complex after Grand Rounds and Journal Club.
April 30: W of apartment complex after a nap after my last day of onc.
As I said, a busy week.
And a little sad - my last day of onc. Got a hug from Pearl this morning after our very last case. Slowly but surely, my residency is finishing. :)
Let the Sun Shine In...
Yesterday, I was too tired. I crashed after work - fell asleep watching my dvr'd Grey's and Private Practice. So much for working on my grand rounds.
April 24: Finally dragged myself out at 10 pm and ran 1 1/2 loops of the apartment complex.
Today, I woke up early. Well, at 8. Got out of bed before 9. And went out to run. And there was the sun, shining down. Forcing me to turn around and change my outfit. So once I had on shorts and a t-shirt, off I went.
April 25: Left out of apartment complex, down Mooney Pond, up S. Evergreen and back through the back of the church.
Weather: It says it's only 54 degrees out...I don't believe it!
Feeling: It's almost HOT.
No, I don't have an option. Off to Starbucks to work on grand rounds.
Wheezy...
It must be spring. Cause today, the first sunny day after three rainy days, I went to run and about a quarter mile in, my lungs tightened and the wheezing started.
April 23: Galaxie Run
Distance: 1.1 miles
Songs: Every Day is a Winding Road, Creepin, Switch
Weather: 54 degrees, sunny, feels like 54
Feeling: I don't like not being able to breathe.
Came home, took my inhaler, and am now chillin' on the couch. There are some days I wish this competition was over, but I'm almost 1/3 of the way there...
Running with a Shadow
Yesterday, I ran as a warmup to the group workout - 1+ mile outside at Bally's in the neighborhood there. 9:29 minutes. BEAUTIFUL DAY. Ran in shorts and a tank top. I could even do that in San Diego.
Today, Johnie managed to drag my ass to the city for football, even though I planned on working on my grand rounds. So I ran with Shadow when I got back. 1.3 miles or so, 12 minutes or so. Still beautiful out, a little cooler. Long sleeve underarmor and my vest with shorts.
Chalas and Westermann are going to get stuck in Chicago tonight, so I get to spend another night in the beautiful house. Though I do sorta miss my bed...
And I should have really worked on my grand rounds more.
Dog Sitting at the Wester-Chalas Estate
Ok, here's the recap:
Tuesday - got out of the OR late, finished my run at 11:59 pm. (1 1/2 loops apartment complex)
Wednesday - decided to eat at Harvard's instead of going to the gym. (W of apartment complex)
Thursday - ran as soon as I got out of work in the sunlight (Galaxie run)
Which brings me to today. Today I start my dogsitting for Westermann and Chalas. I get to stay at their house (beautiful!) and read/study and play with Shadow, their black lab. Who definitely has the personality of Westermann and not Chalas. So today, after work, I packed my laptop and some clothes and decided to run my mile with the dog.
Friday: running around the gorgeous Old Field area (Preston to Maple to the street one over, down and back)
Time: 12:39
Weather: beautiful - high 60s!
Running with a dog isn't as easy as it looks. And now, since I can't motivate myself to work on my grand rounds, I'm going to bed!
Crazy Weekend
Yesterday, I got up before work and ran. And this is how the day went:
Ovarian Debulking with Pearl, Necrotizing Fascitis with Sandoval, Cesarean Hysterectomy with Reavis. And along the way, 4 NSVDs, 3 C/S, 2 sets of twins, 2 D&Es, and maybe an hour of sleep.
Got home at 9:30. Slept til 9 pm, got up to run again.
April 11th: W of the apartment complex at 5 am.
April 12th: W of the apartment complex at 9 pm.
Weather: 39 degrees, feels like 30.
Why is it still so damn cold?
Before the Rain
April 10th: Galaxie run with a twist (took the first left instead of just Galaxie - same distance)
Distance: 1.1 miles
Weather: 49 degrees, cloudy, threatening to rain, feels like 46
Well....
Tomorrow I'm going to the OR with a patient who very likely will die on the table.
She's in acute renal failure, her LFTs are elevated, she's coagulopathic, severely anemic, and has a pelvic mass that has doubled in size in just 6 weeks. She's not oriented to place or time and barely oriented to person.
And tomorrow, Pearl and I will try to take out the mass.
I'm scared shitless.
So today, I ran. And tomorrow, early, I'll run again. And who knows? Maybe pray a little and hope there's an easter miracle. Too bad I'm not religious.
Nap then Run
Yesterday, I went to visit Vanessa after work and played with William the (not small) baby that I delivered exactly 8 weeks ago. Then I had to go see Tristan and pay for my last set of sessions, which meant I ran at 11 pm.
April 8th: 1 1/2 laps of the apartment complex "backwards"
Feeling: I find it funny that running away from my apartment on College Rd gives me the hee-bee-jee-bees. I'm so much jumpier.
April 9th: 1 lap of the apartment complex, L of the church
Songs: Attitude Dance, Hot in Here
Feeling: I thought it was supposed to be warmer out?
Weather: 47, clear - almost a full moon - feels like 43.
I'm glad that I still feel good while/after running. Cause I sometimes can't believe that I'm still doing this every day...
Bottle of Red, Bottle of White
I'll meet you anytime you want...
April 6th: W of the apartment complex after the gym with Tristan
April 7th: Galaxie Run
Today, Beth did her first hyst with Pearl. I felt like a mom, watching my little chick hatch. She did awesome and really listened to some of the things I talked about last night. 2 hours of how to do a hyst when you actually do them in less time. :)
And now, after my run - a nice, comfortable run, I'll sit here with my glass of white and wonder what I'll do tonight.
Football Weekend
Everything a mile or more. These were the last 3 days.
April 3: Galaxie Run after work
Time: 9:14
April 4: 4 laps at Riverbank before the football game
Time: 8:07
End Result of the Football Game: We lost. No big surprise there. :) Still having fun though.
April 5: Circles around the apartment
No time, just running...
Yesterday at the game was crazy windy. There were times running on the track that I was literally being blown in the other direction. Tonight was nice. It was a clear day and same at night. I am glad I ran the 4 laps before the game, cause we played flip cup after and I watched the Uconn game, then I walked from Parlor on 86th to Penn Station on 34th, took the train home and got in 10 of midnight. I was happy because I didn't want to run at that point - I just wanted to go to bed. Plus, with the miles I ran and walked...I more than made up for it.
Just Like Flying
April 2: Circles around the apartment
Songs: Just Dance, Stronger
Time: under 8 minutes
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Like I was flying...
I have to say, on the way back, I felt like I was flying.
That's a nice feeling.
Harvard's Night
So it seems Harvard's kettle chips are a little more agreeable with my stomach. Had some of them, some chicken fingers and ice cream and did okay. Plus two beers.
One of our teams got second in trivia. We got fifth or so. It was fun, as always, and Eva bought us dinner. So when I got home, of course, I had to run.
April 1st: Circle of the Apartment, L of the church
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: Bridegroom, Follow me, Let's dance
Weather: 44 degrees, cloudy (rained earlier), feels like 40
Feeling: A little stitch in my side at around .8 miles. Amazed that I managed to run in between the raindrops. It rained before and after my run.
And that's that. No April fool's jokes this year. Just another year. 3 months down of daily running. That 90 days. That's more than what I have left of residency! :)
I'd be a bad bulemic...
So we went out to TGIFriday's tonight. My learning experience was that, again, the food there, although it tastes good, makes me feel sick. And though I felt like crap and I even TRIED to throw it up, I couldn't. I'd be a bad bulemic.
So that left me at 9 pm with a stomachache, still having to run.
I watched some DVR (One Tree Hill and My Boys) and at 11, made my way out. Which means that I'm happy about two things. 1, that Tums works. 2, that I run faster and it's over quicker.
March 31st: W around the apartment complex
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: Disturbia, Hazel Eyes, Who Let the Dogs Out
Weather: 42, clear, feels like 35 degrees
Feeling: Again, glad Tums works and that I run faster. I was back inside in 8 minutes.
Maybe I'll eat better.
Then again, maybe not.
3 months down, 9 to go!
Maybe I'll eat better.
Then again, maybe not.
3 months down, 9 to go!
Last Few Days
Friday I ran the Galaxie route after clinic.
Saturday I got up in the morning really early and ran Galaxie again - some is more lit than other parts. Funny enough, the side streets are much better lit than College Rd.
Sunday I slept, and when I woke up, I ran the Mooney Pond/S. Evergreen/cut up the road behind the church route.
And then it was Monday. And I ran at Bally's. And I ran FAST!
Distance: 1 mile (12 laps)
Overall time: 7:15
Splits: 36.9, 36.0, 37.6, 36.6, 36.1, 36.1, 35.8, 36.7, 36.5, 36.3, 36.9, 34.0
That felt good good good!
Today, I'll run after clinic again. It's supposed to be 60 out. :)
Running in the Rain
Singing in the rain?
So far, this year, I've managed to truly miss running in the rain. Even on days it poured, I managed to run after when it wasn't raining. Today, getting out of work before 6, it was drizzling, and when I checked the weather forecast, it didn't seem to be ending before midnight. So I figured, what's a little drizzle? At least it's light out...
March 26th: Galaxie Road run
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: One Step at a Time, Stronger than Yesterday, Devil Went Down to Georgia
Weather: 42 degrees, drizzling, feels like 37
Feeling: Felt like old school, since Britney and Charlie Daniels were some of my med school running songs. And I swear, it's either sleeting, hailing, or snowing. It's precipitating, the way Ithaca used to.
Tomorrow's clinic. Saturday's call, which means another run early in the morning...
Ski Hat?
Really? I still have to run in a ski hat?
Sunday I ran the Galaxie run - 1 mile. And I clicked submit on my onc application!
Monday I ran at Bally's - 7:43. Just a nice, easy 1 mile.
Splits:39.3, 39.4, 40.3, 39.0, 39.1, 38.6, 38.9, 39.4, 38.1, 38.1, 38.0, 35.3
Tuesday I ran around the apartment complex - at 11:50 at night. 1 mile. Operated until 9, left the hospital it 10, had TGIFriday's with Beth, and ran when I got home.
Wednesday I ran around the apartment complex and the church. Maybe a little more than a mile. But my knee and hip felt good. My stomach, on the other hand, is revolting. Maybe I gotta eat better...
Now here's my beef with all this. I've had to wear my ski hat again. Tonight's weather was 37, feels like 33. Yesterday was 36, feels like 36. Ugh! C'mon spring!
Dedicated
Yesterday morning, I got up and ran before work, which lead into call.
March 20th: Circles/Ws around the apartment complex
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Might have to start running before work!
Call made me tired. So tired, that when I went up to the gyn call room to get Beth before going to breakfast, I fell asleep. But we did make it to Toast, we did have our mimosas, and then I crashed when I got home. I woke up around 6, ordered some pizza, watched TV and basketball and then finally got out to run at 11.
March 21st: Circles & Ws
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: Love Song, Don't Stop the Music
Weather: 34 degrees, partly cloudy, feels like 29
Feeling: I can't believe that I do this.
I can't believe that I've been this dedicated. I'm not sure why it's worked for almost three months, but here I am, still running. And it doesn't feel like a burden. I mean, I don't want to do it at times, but I get out there, and I do it. Can't explain why. But it feels good.
Tomorrow, I finish my onc application and hit submit. Gotta do it at some point!
I Feel Like Puking.
March 19th: Circles/Ws around the apartment
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: Miley Cyrus, Something else I can't remember, Country Grammar
Time: 7:51
Weather: 36 degrees, cloudy, feels like 36
Feeling: Good while running...strong desire to puke after.
Okay, the desire to puke is either from 1-Crappy Dinner at Friendly's 2-Beer before Wine at Poker 3-Crappy (but very good) Snacks at Poker or the less likely 4-Running Fast.
Since I only ran a 7:51 - I don't think 4 was it. The good think was my hip (right hip) and knee (left knee) didn't start to hurt until the end. Hip still hurts, knee's okay so far.
Call tomorrow night. That means run early or run between 5-6. Hope I can get up early tomorrow.
