So, May is here. Four months down of running a mile every day. Not too shabby.
May means one thing to me - St. Maarten! I bought my timeshare as an intern, and it's my third time here this year. Course, this year, I happen to be utterly broke, so it's going to be a budget St. Maarten trip, but that's okay with me. It's really about me, the beach, and a good book.
May 1: Ran at Bally's before my workout with Tristan. 7:50 mile, a little slow.
May 2: Galaxie Run before getting on my plane to St. Maarten.
May 3: 11:10 run around the Pelican complex.
So I've run into a little problem here. First, St. Maarten, and especially Pelican Resort, is VERY HILLY. Second, nothing is measured in miles here, it's all km (not that that is really a problem - 1600 meters, duh). Third, did I mention hilly?
So I decided that I know I run under a 10 minute mile. If I run downhill, I'll be running up hill as well at some point, so as long as I run more than 10 minutes, I should be fine. Plus, there's an area in front of the Marina that's flat - and I'll be incorporating that into my daily runs. The run today took me up to the top of the complex, around some parking lots (those are usually flat), down to the base, up the hill to the Marina, around the Marina, across the beach, and back UP the hill to my place. It reminded me of running Central Park in NYC.
Of course, there's an added benefit of running here - I jumped in the pool after my run. And I'm sure running into the ocean will happen with at least one of my runs. :)
