Around the Block

April 23: 4x around the block at the dojo

So for the black belt test, they're supposed to run 6 laps in 15 min. Which is 2:30 a lap. I told the kids I'd pace them for the laps today. Needless to say, they didn't keep up. I lapped them all. Some more than once. And I did it in 11 min instead of the prerequisite 10. Sigh.

Did get to work out with Carrie tonight. She's pretty awesome. Might even convince me to try kickboxing because my guess is she runs a mean class. Sensei Ricky had an old school Sensei Ralph class, complete with yelling at everyone about not caring. Typical Tuesday class. Glad Ricky was the one running class though. :)

Pre-karate

April 22: 1 mile before karate

Two months left in Brooklyn. I'm really going to miss the dojo.

Chilly Sunday

38 degrees this morning. And I'm not in Montana yet!

April 21: Prospect Park 1 mile

Going to go treat my mice, prepare everything for tomorrow's lab, and then get my study on. Such is my life for the next few months...

Caught!

So one of the marathon bombers was killed on Thursday night and the second was captured yesterday. Now for the police to find out WHY. But I've bought my support Boston t-shirt and will make a donation along the way.

April 19: 1 mile Prospect Park
April 20: Same

On call this weekend. Life is good!

Post-Boston

Someone bombed the finish of the Boston marathon. WTF?

So there's been a huge drive in the running (and even non-running) community to #runforboston

April 15: ATB at karate
April 16: 4 loops before karate
April 17: 1 mile Prospect Park in AM
April 18: 1 mile Prospect Park in AM

Recuperating

So I spent the day in bed. Felt a little better today, but figured the majority of the weekend was a wash, so might as well just spend some me-time.

Felt a little stronger, so got out at dinner time to do my regular run.

April 14: Prospect Park 1 mile

Here's for a productive week ahead!

Stomach Bug

Well, that sucked.

Anita warned me that her house was getting over the stomach bug. I was hoping that "getting over it" meant "gone" but that didn't seem to be the case.

Made it home from Toledo fine. Made it to work Fri morning for long enough to weigh my mice and then the stomach pains happened. And what happened after that wasn't pretty. From both ends. Dry heaves and water from below. Wasn't sure I'd even make my run. So I ran back and forth down the hallway 16 times. And then crawled back into bed.

Today, food has stayed down (and in). Ideally, tomorrow I'll start disinfecting the house and get back to normal.

April 12: Hallway run
April 11: ATB

Chi-town Airport Run

Always love the stares. :)

Return to the Dojo

So I promised myself I wouldn't jump or do flying kicks or anything. But I had to go back. Stir crazy and all.

April 8: 1 mile+ ATB before karate
April 9: 4 laps ATB before karate
April 10: 1 mile Prospect Park

So it's sidekick week - which just meant I didn't do any jumping or flying. But I did work on my spinning kick. And now I know what I did to my neck earlier this year. Wasn't falling asleep funny, though it might have contributed. It was from sidekicks.

Off to Ohio today. Gotta pack still. Flight's at 11 out of LGA.

Clinical Done - Again

Four more weekend calls left and then this is really over for good.

April 3: ATB
April 4: ATB
April 5: ATB
April 6: ATB before karate
April 7: Prospect Park 1 mile

So I didn't really get the go ahead to resume all my regular athletic activities. I pretty much got a "continue to take it easy, no jumping, pounding, valsalvaing or jarring the eye. No swimming, watch for sinus infections and orbital cellulitis. It's not worse, but it's not better either, so come back in a month and we'll see where it's at."

So no jumping or spinning. No burpees. Still keeping to the minimum miles. But mi need to do something or I'll go crazy!

April's Here!

Last few days of clinical service.

March 31: ATB
April 1: ATB
April 2: ATB

Likely last cases with Salame and Lee today. Tomorrow I operate with Fatehi. And then hopefully Friday AM, I'm cleared to really get back to working out!
