July 31: What else? Prospect Park Run.
Didn't sleep very well last night. Tossing and turning about a patient in the hospital. Between that and my chest cold which kept me up coughing and the amount of tea that I've drank which kept me up peeing, it wasn't a great night. But I did get my run in and now I'm going to shower and go round.
Then, hopefully accomplish some stuff in my office. And then go study. And tonight, when I come home, clean the apartment.
My life is rather boring.

One Month Down
Well, almost. I guess tomorrow is technically July 31, but this means that 1 month of fellowship is down. 2 years and 11 months to go. This was a rough week. Started out with an awesome weekend, but didn't involve much sleep, and then the beginning of the week hit hard with long days in the OR. Then, I got sick on Wednesday with the start of a chest cold. Now it's the same cold I get every 6 months or so (what I like to call my "SGO" sickness). Hacking cough, lots of mucous ~ I'm constantly amazed by the amount of mucous my body can produce. Soon, I'll lose my voice. It's a wonderful thing.
But I have managed to keep running. Well, one day was walking, but I consider 8+ miles worth it.
July 23: Prospect Park run before dinner with Patricia. Gotta enjoy my weekend off!
July 24: Prospect Park run before going into NYC to hang out with Nik and Kirthi.
July 25: RI with my dad - walked 8+ miles. I counted this today - usually don't count the walks with my dad when it's 3 miles, but I figured 8+ was good.
July 26: Up to 16th and back down around the traffiic circle. Got out of work after 9 pm.
July 27: Up to 16th and back down around the traffic circle. Got out of work after 10 pm.
July 28: Up to 16th and back down around the traffic circle. Starting a chest cold. Doesn't feel good.
July 29: Prospect Park - suprisingly felt ok, despite massive chest cold starting.
July 30: Prospect Park - slow and steady. This chest cold is killing me. (9:31)
Now it's bed early, run in the morning then round at the hospital and try to get organized. Going to do all the chemo orders and try to finally really understand chemotherapy doing and regimens. That, and hopefully get a table from IKEA. But first, I'm all about my bed.

Running Away
So today I tried to run away from some of the people occupying too much space in my head. Needless to say, because they are both still texting me tonight, it didn't work.
July 19: Prospect Park
July 20: Prospect Park
July 21: Prospect Park
July 22: Prospect Park
Oh, what to do...
m "nope, dying here."
e "well, you're not allowed to die quite yet...i'm not done with you quite yet."
....
e "i currently want to shoot myself"
m "don't do that. i'm not done with you yet. lol."
e "dude, you're a bunch of trouble."

Another Morning Run
This is the second day I had the opportunity to sleep in a little. Slept from 10:30 til about 7:30 and finally got out of bed around 8. Then I peetered around for a half hour til I got a text from Tana saying "let's round at 9:15" which meant I had to get my butt in gear if I was going to get my run in before rounds.
July 18: Prospect Park 1 mile
Time: ~ 8 minutes (didn't actually time it, just glanced at my watch)
Then we rounded and now I'm home. Ordered freshdirect for delivery tomorrow night to have some fresh veggies in the house and am currently doing my laundry. Once that's all put away, I'll probably go hit up a coffeeshop up in Park Slope to try to do some work. Cause if I stay home, I'm gonna fall asleep.

Morning Run
Ahh...
Last night was a good night of sleep. Michelle, my second year, was on call, so I was able to sleep really well. Today, Sarah, my third year is on call, so I'm also going to sleep well. Had one admission today, but it happened during the day. Managed to get my run in early (or late, depending on how you look at it). Slept til 8, ran when I woke up, was in the hospital by 9:30ish.
July 17: Prospect Park 1 mile
Feeling: Took it easy.
Then, after rounds, I did some studying at some coffeeshops. After the admission, I came home and tidied my still mostly-unpacked apartment. I didn't really unpack anymore, but now it currently doesn't look like a tornado hit it. And the dirt from my running shoes is all swept up.

Ugh. What a Day.
July 14: Prospect Park after being up for essentially 36 hours
July 15: Prospect Park - felt good after a good night's rest the night before
July 16: Prospect Park - felt eh. Tired today.
Today was the long day ~ the day you run around like an idiot because you don't know the system, you're all alone, and you're trying to be good at your job. My second year resident got pulled to the OR, my third year was in clinic, my second year fellow was at a conference, and my third year fellow, while available, is sometimes sorta an ass. But I got it done, it took longer than it might have needed to, but it all got done. And I think the patients, for the most part, were happy.
Tomorrow I get to round by myself. WOOHOO! Round, write chemo orders, and then find a cozy place to get some work done. Or maybe clean my apartment. We'll see how the day goes.

Just Another Week
July 7: Prospect Park after work
July 8: Prospect Park after work
July 9: Prospect Park in the evening, before heading back to the hospital to do a case
July 10: Prospect Park in the evening
July 11: Prospect Park in the morning before visiting Katrina
July 12: Prospect Park after work
July 13: Prospect Park after work
Do you get my theme? The marked mile (or half-mile out and half-mile back) in Prospect Park has become easily my favorite run.
I've timed it a few days and I'm running between 7:30 and 8 minutes. I'm not running all out, I'm not running slow, it's just a solid pace. Comfortable. Which makes me think about how I used to run 12 minute miles when I started this and how getting 7+ minute miles was exciting for me. Now it's routine. Time to start working to breaking 7 regularly. Or upping the milage.

ICK
99 degrees at 8 pm for my run?
Ick.
July 6: It was slow (10 minute mile). It was disgusting out.
And there looks to be no end in sight.

Happy 4th of July!
So guess what I did today?
Rounded. You're going to sense a running theme with work over the next three years.
It was freakin' hot out! Like 93 degrees hot. I'm still sweltering in my apartment (because I don't like to turn the air conditioning on until I'm about to go to bed. And I'm watching the fireworks, which is pretty cool that I don't have to go anywhere for them.
Oh, and I ran. I waited til about 8 pm and took it easy (like 9:20 mile easy).
July 4: Prospect Park 1 mile
And now, I'm going to bed. Cause I've got to round in the morning tomorrow again.

It's Getting HOT!
So the weather outside is hot, hot, hot. Beautiful blue skies. So what did I do today?
Rounded at the hospital - 4 1/2 hours.
Waited for freshdirect - 2 hours
Tried to unpack my apartment - 4 hours (2 of the hours waiting for freshdirect)
What else, you ask? Run, of course.
July 3: Prospect Park (7:51) - pickups between the poles
Haven't felt "fabulous" to want to do a run to break 7 minutes lately. And I'm going to guess that I might not, given the fact that the entire weekend is supposed to be like this. So I run between 7 and 8 pm and just "get it done."

The Start of Fellowship
So far, not too bad.
Jun 29: Prospect Park, nice and easy, after spending the day at Downstate
Jun 30: Prospect Park (8:09) after returning to the City from my dad's cards appt
July 1: Prospect Park (7:31) after the first day of fellowship!
July 2: Prospect Park (7:50) - did some pickups between the poles
So I've started fellowship. Wow. Have to learn a bunch of new particulars with what these attendings want. But I'm hoping that it will be a ton of fun. And learning.
And in 1093 days, it's done.
