So we went out to TGIFriday's tonight. My learning experience was that, again, the food there, although it tastes good, makes me feel sick. And though I felt like crap and I even TRIED to throw it up, I couldn't. I'd be a bad bulemic.
So that left me at 9 pm with a stomachache, still having to run.
I watched some DVR (One Tree Hill and My Boys) and at 11, made my way out. Which means that I'm happy about two things. 1, that Tums works. 2, that I run faster and it's over quicker.
March 31st: W around the apartment complex
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: Disturbia, Hazel Eyes, Who Let the Dogs Out
Weather: 42, clear, feels like 35 degrees
Feeling: Again, glad Tums works and that I run faster. I was back inside in 8 minutes.
Maybe I'll eat better.
Then again, maybe not.
3 months down, 9 to go!

Last Few Days
Friday I ran the Galaxie route after clinic.
Saturday I got up in the morning really early and ran Galaxie again - some is more lit than other parts. Funny enough, the side streets are much better lit than College Rd.
Sunday I slept, and when I woke up, I ran the Mooney Pond/S. Evergreen/cut up the road behind the church route.
And then it was Monday. And I ran at Bally's. And I ran FAST!
Distance: 1 mile (12 laps)
Overall time: 7:15
Splits: 36.9, 36.0, 37.6, 36.6, 36.1, 36.1, 35.8, 36.7, 36.5, 36.3, 36.9, 34.0
That felt good good good!
Today, I'll run after clinic again. It's supposed to be 60 out. :)

Running in the Rain
Singing in the rain?
So far, this year, I've managed to truly miss running in the rain. Even on days it poured, I managed to run after when it wasn't raining. Today, getting out of work before 6, it was drizzling, and when I checked the weather forecast, it didn't seem to be ending before midnight. So I figured, what's a little drizzle? At least it's light out...
March 26th: Galaxie Road run
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: One Step at a Time, Stronger than Yesterday, Devil Went Down to Georgia
Weather: 42 degrees, drizzling, feels like 37
Feeling: Felt like old school, since Britney and Charlie Daniels were some of my med school running songs. And I swear, it's either sleeting, hailing, or snowing. It's precipitating, the way Ithaca used to.
Tomorrow's clinic. Saturday's call, which means another run early in the morning...

Ski Hat?
Really? I still have to run in a ski hat?
Sunday I ran the Galaxie run - 1 mile. And I clicked submit on my onc application!
Monday I ran at Bally's - 7:43. Just a nice, easy 1 mile.
Splits:39.3, 39.4, 40.3, 39.0, 39.1, 38.6, 38.9, 39.4, 38.1, 38.1, 38.0, 35.3
Tuesday I ran around the apartment complex - at 11:50 at night. 1 mile. Operated until 9, left the hospital it 10, had TGIFriday's with Beth, and ran when I got home.
Wednesday I ran around the apartment complex and the church. Maybe a little more than a mile. But my knee and hip felt good. My stomach, on the other hand, is revolting. Maybe I gotta eat better...
Now here's my beef with all this. I've had to wear my ski hat again. Tonight's weather was 37, feels like 33. Yesterday was 36, feels like 36. Ugh! C'mon spring!

Dedicated
Yesterday morning, I got up and ran before work, which lead into call.
March 20th: Circles/Ws around the apartment complex
Distance: 1 mile
Feeling: Might have to start running before work!
Call made me tired. So tired, that when I went up to the gyn call room to get Beth before going to breakfast, I fell asleep. But we did make it to Toast, we did have our mimosas, and then I crashed when I got home. I woke up around 6, ordered some pizza, watched TV and basketball and then finally got out to run at 11.
March 21st: Circles & Ws
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: Love Song, Don't Stop the Music
Weather: 34 degrees, partly cloudy, feels like 29
Feeling: I can't believe that I do this.
I can't believe that I've been this dedicated. I'm not sure why it's worked for almost three months, but here I am, still running. And it doesn't feel like a burden. I mean, I don't want to do it at times, but I get out there, and I do it. Can't explain why. But it feels good.
Tomorrow, I finish my onc application and hit submit. Gotta do it at some point!

I Feel Like Puking.
March 19th: Circles/Ws around the apartment
Distance: 1 mile
Songs: Miley Cyrus, Something else I can't remember, Country Grammar
Time: 7:51
Weather: 36 degrees, cloudy, feels like 36
Feeling: Good while running...strong desire to puke after.
Okay, the desire to puke is either from 1-Crappy Dinner at Friendly's 2-Beer before Wine at Poker 3-Crappy (but very good) Snacks at Poker or the less likely 4-Running Fast.
Since I only ran a 7:51 - I don't think 4 was it. The good think was my hip (right hip) and knee (left knee) didn't start to hurt until the end. Hip still hurts, knee's okay so far.
Call tomorrow night. That means run early or run between 5-6. Hope I can get up early tomorrow.

St. Pat's and beyond...
So Don's sick and last night I took call. Which meant I had to run pre-work.
March 17th: Running in circles around the apartment complex
Distance: 1 mile
Time: nope - other than it was 5 am
Weather: 34 degrees, dark, feels like 28
Feeling: Can't even believe I'm awake...
I thought second year call would be fun. And I did manage to get things done (looked up some of the onc programs). I did have to help on L&D for a while, which was not too bad. By 1 am, I hit my "I'm tired and want to go to bed" mood, so off to the call room I went. Left the pagers at the bedside and did what I used to do on call - slept.
God, I love second year call. Maybe I'll have Buescher be chief on Friday night.
So today, I got home around 6:30 (after getting McDonald's for breakfast like I used to) and was asleep by 7. Tried to get up at noon, ended up getting up around 2, dragged myself out for my run by 3.
March 18th: College Rd, right onto Galaxie, left onto Elmwood, left onto College Rd and home to the apartment
Distance: 1 mile
Time: no idea (under 10 minutes)
Weather: 53 degrees, partly cloudy, feels like 53
Feeling: My legs hurt. My knees hurt. And I'm so not awake yet.
So that's my day so far. I should get coffee, I should shower, I should go get a pedicure, I should do all those other things that I plannned to do for having this day off.
I think I'll watch tv. :)

Getting It Done
So today I'm on gyn. I decided to do Budnick's cases today, which weren't bad for Budnick cases. We got done around 2, and I had intended to get a few things done this afternoon. Haven't gotten as much done as I wanted to in the last few weeks. Still didn't really happen, but I did get out on time. So I decided to run when I got home at 6.
March 16th: Out of the apartment complex, to the left to Mooney Pond, left onto Mooney Pond, to S. Evergreen, left onto S. Evergreen to Sunset, left onto Sunset, through the path behind the church and across the grass back to my apartment
Distance: 1.2 miles
Time: nope...steady pace
Songs: Disturbia, Getting Jiggy With It, Promiscous, I Will...But
Weather: 41 degrees, cloudy, feels like 36 (okay, maybe a little warmer - two hours have passed at this point since I ran)
Feeling: Hips and shins still really hurt.
After my run, I finally made sure our case report was sumbitted to the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. And now I'm working out with Tristan at 9...and then on a 24 hour call tomorrow since I'm taking 2nd year call for Don. But that means I've got Wednesday off so I can hoepfully get some things done then too.

San Diego to Long Island
So yesterday was the last day of the conference. I didn't have to go to the first lecture so I slept in a little. I probably ran around 7 am.
March 14th: Out of the hotel, to the left, to the little park around the grass and back.
Time: 11:03
Distance: ~1.2 miles
Weather: nice - probably low 50s, cloudy
Feeling: Wish it wasn't my last day in San Diego...
And then it was time to come back. Luckily, on my plane with me happened to be one of our ansthesiologists at the Brook, Daryn. Who was a streaker at one point, but has since dropped out. It was nice to share the plane ride with someone.
And today, I slept in/lounged around until 2, and then headed into the city for football. And we won!! I thought about running at the track at Riverbank, but didn't really feel like it, so I decided to run when I got home.
March 15th: Right out apartment complex, right onto Galaxie, up to Elmwood, left onto Elmwood and then left onto College Rd back to the apartment
Time: didn't time it
Songs: Brian Wilson, Hit Me Baby One More Time, So What
Distance: 1 mile
Weather: 44 degrees, cloudy, feels like 42
Feeling: My shins and left hip flexor hurt. Not quite like shin splints, more like "oh my god it's going to explode" but gets better when I'm done. I'm trying to stretch more. And I tried to run on the grass as much as I could for a little softer surface. I'm going to have to get to the track soon.
I really don't want to go back to work tomorrow. Ugh.

APGO Presentation Day!
Today's the day of my oral presentation ~ so I was up early and off for my run.
March 13th: Out of the hotel from the far tower, to the left, to the little park around the grass and back.
Time: 11:22
Distance: ~1.5 miles
Weather: 49 degrees, clear, felt like 49 degrees - sun's not even up yet!
Feeling: My shins and knees and hips hurt a little...but the run was fast.
So I showered, put my suit on, and headed downstairs. The presentation group was from 11-12:15. Sat through some pretty boring lectures before my group. And then, it was time for us.
I was the fifth of five presenters to go. Some of the presenters had some kick ASS presentations. So I got up, gave my presentation, and boom ~ all these hands went up. People aren't insulting my project, they were complimenting it! They want to do it at their institutions - would I be interested in a multicenter trial? It was amazing.
So I'm almost done in San Diego. We're going out to dinner tonight to celebrate. So far, so good. I just wish I got more sleep on my vacation. On that note...
I'm taking a nap.

Smiling in the Sun...well, Clouds.
So I got up this morning to run before the conference. I remember that working better in San Antonio than trying to do it at the end of the day. So I had a wake up call at 6:15 and got out at 6:40ish.
March 12th: Out of the hotel, to the right this time, around the other grassy area, through the Seaport Village around and back.
Time: 10:03
Distance: 1.2 miles
Weather: 55 degrees, cloudy, felt like 53 degrees - sun's not even up yet!
Feeling: It's nice when the only people out are other runners.
Then I stopped at the coffee shop, got an oatmeal-bran muffin (amazing how much healthier I'll eat when I'm away), showered, and now it's time to get dressed.
Last night, I finished my presentation. Tonight, I'll practice it for Eva and Les, and tomorrow, I'll be done. :)

Runner's High
So the conference starts today. I went to sleep early last night (like 7 pm early) since I hadn't adjusted to West Coast time. I slept til 6:30 this morning, which was good. Then I worked on my presentation for a little while and then decided it was time to go run.
March 11th: Out of the hotel, around Seaport Village, to the grassy area behind the Convention Center and back, walked for a bit through Seaport Village, then ran again along the other grassy area behind Seaport Village and back to the hotel.
Time: 16:41 (total run time. didn't time the walking)
Distance: probably 1.5 miles or so, maybe more
Weather: 53 degrees, partly cloudy, felt like 53 degrees
Feeling: I remember what it's like to get a runner's high.
Over the last few months, running has been what makes me smile. Running here, in the sun, with the water, reminds me of why I love to run. That being said, if my shins stopped hurting, I'd probably like it more.

San Diego
So I got up nice and early this morning to catch my flight to San Diego. Things I don't recommend: sitting for 8 hours on an airplane after working out the day before...owww.
But that being said, I got here, I checked in, I did a little more work on my presentation (more to come on that tonight) and then decided that the sun through my window was too tempting and I was off.
March 10th: Out of the hotel, around Seaport Village, to the grassy area behind the Convention Center and back.
Time: 13:05
Distance: probably 1.5 miles or so
Weather: 59 degrees, sunny, felt like 59 degrees
Feeling: God, I love running by the water...and I wish I went out earlier since I found some great restaurants on my run.
So I think I'll take a nap, then find food again, then finish this presentation....
maybe.

Stronger Than Yesterday
So today I finally had to get down to work. I'm presenting in San Diego on Friday, and I needed to make my Power Point still. So I did that for a while in the morning...until my computer froze and I lost about 20 slides. After that, I went to the gym for my workout with Tristan. And then I ran.
March 9th: 12 laps of the track at Bally's
Songs: Stronger than Yesterday, Brian Wilson
Distance: 1 mile
Time: 7:25.81
Splits: 36.7, 37.8, 37.3, 37.9, 37.4, 38.5, 38.3, 37.4, 37.2, 37.6, 35.7, 33.8
Feeling: I probably have a little more in me. I think I could hit 7:15 on an outside track. But...OH. DEAR. GOD. MY. SHINS. HURT!!!
Stretched them for a while after. Here's for hoping that they're looser tomorrow.
So my plane leaves at 7:40 am, which means I need to leave for the airport by 6 am. My laundry's still at the laundromat, so I haven't packed yet, my presentation's still not done yet, so I still have a good deal to do before I get there. And I do also have time tomorrow before the conference starts to finish it up.

Football's Back!
So I haven't done much lately (ie the last two days) other than workout/run/watch TV. Today's our first scrimmage football game in NYC which I had initially forgotten about when I was making my "schedule" of things to do today. Which means I'm down a bunch of hours I planned on doing things. But the weather is beautiful and I can't wait to run around for football. But first, I have to run around for the OR...
March 8th: Right out of Apartment Complex down College Rd, Right onto Elmwood, Right onto Galaxie, Left onto College and home
Distance: 1.1 miles
Weather: 59 degrees, cloudy, felt like 59 degrees
Feeling: Can't wait for my football game!!
So we'll see what/if anything I get accomplished before the game. Otherwise, tomorrow's going to be a really really busy day!

Running in SHORTS!
Ok, the last few days...
March 5th: Circles around the Apartment Complex at 9 pm
Distance: 1 mile
Weather: 36 degrees, partly cloudy, felt like 30 degrees
Feeling: I'm exhausted.
Antepartum is exhausting. Chiefs should never have to do it. And I had to get up early the next morning to run otherwise I'd never get my run in.
March 6th: Circles around the Apartment Complex at 4:30 am
Distance: 1 mile
Weather: 39 degrees, cloudy, felt like 32 degrees
Feeling: This is freaking crazy.
That night was Joe and Kristen's wedding, which was wonderful, and was the reason I needed to wake up so early to run. We didn't get home from NYC until 2:30 am (and I struggled to stay awake driving). I woke up in time to get to group workout with Tristan and Sharon - today we had an obstacle course and abs again. Fun fun fun!
March 7th: To 25 and Back
Distance: 1+ mile
Songs: Hot and Cold, Country Grammar, Who Let the Dogs Out, Stronger
Weather: 53 degrees, partly cloudy, feels like 53 degrees
Feeling: I'm running in shorts!
You can't beat it - one week ago, I was running in snow. Now, it's almost all gone and I was in shorts. And I'll be running in shorts all week - I'm off to San Diego on Tuesday!

Harvards Night
So payday Wednesday was always a night where the residents went to John Harvards. So tonight, Nikole, Kirthi, Liz and I were off for a few beers and a few appetizers. Kettle chips are my personal fave (see my previous posts about my diet needing to be improved...)
March 4th: Circles around the Apartment Complex
Songs: Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Eminem
Distance: 1 mile
Weather: 15 degrees, clear, feels like 15 degrees
Feeling: Alrighty...hamstrings are still tight.
I probably shouldn't run after having 3-4 beers.
Then again, only a crazy person runs this late at night...

Snowstorm!
I can't actually believe I've managed these two runs so far. It snowed on Monday and L&D was really busy. I got out after 9 and still managed to run. Today, I got home from clinic around 7 pm, and had to take a nap and just got back in from my run around 10:45. Antepartum's gonna kill me this week!!!
March 2nd: W of apartment complex
Distance: 1 miles
Weather: 14 inches of snow on the ground, 18 degrees, feels like 2 degrees!
Feeling: Had to go really slow so I didn't break anything! Plus, my ipod died 0.2 miles from the end. Hard not to run without a smile since there was snow on the ground!
March 3rd: W of apartment complex
Distance: 1 miles
Songs: Follow Me, Oh What a Night, Misunderstood
Weather: 19 degrees, clear, feels like 8 degrees
Feeling: Had to go really slow so I didn't break anything! Plus, my ipod died 0.2 miles from the end. Hard not to run without a smile since there was snow on the ground!

March: In Like a Lion
So when I opened my eyes this morning, it was snowing. By the time I got out of bed, it had stopped. But there's a big storm coming, so I figured I'd wait until it started again. And I waited, and waited. And then I decided I'd rather run when it was light out versus when it was snowing out, so out I went.
March 1st: College Rd to Mooney Pond, left on Mooney to S. Evergreen, left on S. Evergreen to Inwood, left on Inwood to Galaxie, left on Galaxie to College Rd and left on College to home.
Songs: Only the Good Die Young, Martyrdom, Just Dance, Meet Virginia, and some others
Distance: 1.75 miles
Weather: 30 degrees, cloudy, feels like 22
Feeling: Hamstrings are tight again - probably from group workout yesterday. Sad part is, I actually stretched and walked after group so I thought they'd be okay.
Then I came in and took a shower (which felt really good). Tomorrow's another workout with Tristan. Don't know if I'm going to time my mile or not, since I did that on Saturday. We shall see. Right now though, I'm going to put on my pjs and stretch.
