Whirlwind Trip

Wow. I'm tired.

Yesterday, I left Meriden at around 4:30 am. I arrived at JFK around 6:45 and started my journey to Montana. I landed (Montana time) at 12:30 and then started my drive to Miles City. I arrived back at my apartment around 3 and found the following:

- Running Clothes strewn over the floor
- 3 Petrified bananas on the counter
- That I had accumulated a lot more stuff that I thought.

So what did I do to clear my mind? My run.

Feb 18: Around the block, counterclockwise

Let the packing begin. I did go to Rib and Chop with Jackie and Lisa, finally giving them their Christmas presents. I stopped by the hospital and packed up my office. And then I was up until around 1 am packing my apartment. Got a few hours of sleep and then again, started my day with a run.

Feb 19: Around the block, counterclockwise.

Then it was off to the office, Midrivers, St Vincent's Thrift Store and then the airport - which I arrived essentially just in the nick of time. And now, I'm sitting in the Minneapolis airport. I'll land at JFK around 11 pm and then start the journey home to CT.

And then, I start back at Stony Brook on Tuesday.

A little bit of a whirlwind.

And Tomorrow, Montana

Feb 17: Oak St Run
Feeling: Ok. My dad thought I just ran around the house since I was back so quickly. My left calf is going to cramp soon, I can just feel it.

Dad was cleared by the CT surgeon today. Can start to drive when he feels up to it and can start to lift more than 10 lbs in 2 weeks. His arterial scan was negative, which means his calf stuff is probably neurologic and not athrosclerosis, which is good.

Tomorrow I fly to Montana, pack up all my shit, and come home. Literally. Home to the 'Brook.

Who would have thought...

Snowing in CT

Feb 14: Lima Run
Feb 15: Lima Run

Last night, they predicted 1-3 inches of snow. There were 4-5 inches this morning and then it stopped. So I shoveled. Except at 1 pm it started snowing again - at about 1-2 inches AN HOUR. I shoveled again at 3 pm another 3 inches and now, it doesn't even look like I shoveled. I'm not going out again tonight. I'll just deal with it in the morning.

Feb 16: Oak St Run
Weather: 33 degrees, snowing about 1-2 inches an hour
Feeling: I love running in the snow - but I wasn't going to try Lima in the snow!

Tomorrow, my dad has an arterial scan in the morning and then follow up with the CT surgeon. Fun fun. And I finished my orientation stuff for SB today, so provided all goes well, I'll be an attending on Monday!

A Long Month

It's been almost exactly a month since I posted. And what a long month it has been. Let me try to recap it by remembering all the runs I've done.

Jan 15: Flew home - ran that morning. See my last post.
Jan 16: Went to the hospital, saw dad, went to Jen & Kev's for the night and ran, albiet very reluctantly, at 9 pm around their neighborhood.
Jan 17: Ran at my parents house - Elm to Harrison to Oak to Silver to Elm
Jan 18: Same
Jan 19: Same
Jan 20: Same - think this is the day I started running Lima instead of Silver
Jan 21: Same
Jan 22: Dad had open heart surgery. CABG x 5, MVR. Ran that night at the hotel at the hospital. Ran in the hallway up and down 6 laps (12 lengths) ~ 10 minutes
Jan 23: Hotel run - same
Jan 24: Hotel run - same
Jan 25: Hotel run - same
Jan 26: Ran at my parents house - Lima route
Jan 27: Same
Jan 28: Same
Jan 29: Same
Jan 30: Same
Jan 31: Same
Feb 1-11: Same
(Feb 3: Dad came home from the hospital)
Feb 12: Ran on the Ferry boat coming back from LI for 10 minutes
Feb 13: Ran at my parents house - Lima route

And shortly, I'll head out to run the Lima route again. It's been a long month, as I said, and some interesting things have happened.

One - I've been running for 13 1/2 months
Two - My friend Kristen started doing the same thing
Three - I'm not going back to Montana. Well, I am, but just for long enough to get my stuff.
Four - I'm going to start as an attending at Stony Brook.
Five - We redid my parents living room and cleaned the downstairs. So I actually can breathe here again.
Six - Going to walk with dad.
